Nowak, Assistant City Manager 534. 30 3a &. 00 (p) CTr y OF i u 3CF441T of A r I I I _.199 -L ACTION: Aa a p tcd Rc5c> ton No 30 March 1998 (Special Council meeting of 04- 01 -98) Approve Resolution No. 98- Amending the FY 1998 -99 Budget for Funding of Police Resource Center Tenant Improvements. Discussion: Since 1996 the Moorpark Police Resource Center has occupied space at unit 23 in the Town Center development. Earlier this year the City was informed that the owners of the development required the unit for use by the Ventura County Department of Public Health. The adjoining unit, number 19, was offered for lease as an alternative. Last week the City was informed that the current Resource Center space would be needed the week of April 26 for demolition work. In order to expedite the tenant improvements that would be required to allow the Police Resource Center to occupy the new space without interruption of service to the community, informal price quotes were obtained from local contractors. The estimates were from $20,000 to $25,000. The proposed tenant improvements will minimize the number of enclosed offices and utilize modular office units which hopefully can be obtained gratis. Prior to awarding a construction bid, the City Council is requested to appropriate $20,000 from the Police Facilities Fund to pay for the tenant improvements and for the City Manager to be authorized to award the construction contract for the improvements work as an urgency item. Resolution No. 98- will appropriate the necessary funds from the Police Facilities Fund. Recommendation: (Roll Call Vote) That the City Council 1) adopt Resolution No. 98- appropriating $20,000 from the Police Facilities Fund for tenant improvements for the Police Resource Center; and 2) that the City Manager be authorized to award the construction contract as an urgency item.
