DATE: October 21, 1998 (City Council Meeting of November 4, 1998) SUBJECT: Consider Census 2000 Complete Count Committee Attached is a letter from Ventura Council of Governments (VCOG) regarding the formation of a County -wide Census 2000 Complete Count Committee to insure a coordinated effort to maximize the results of the 2000 census. VCOG has requested that an agenda item be placed on each member agency agenda. The Bureau of the Census has requested each jurisdiction to appoint a complete count committee to assist in efforts on the census. Staff has already been working on census preparation, including the Local Update of Census Addresses Program and has attended a couple of census training and information programs. Staff discussed this with Arnold Dowdy, Executive Director of VCOG, who indicated a staff appointment to the Committee was expected. If approved by City Council, the Director of Community Development, or his designee, would serve as the staff representative on this committee. John Libiez, Principal Planner, would serve as the designated representative on this committee. Approve support of a County -wide Census 2000 Complete Count Committee and appointment of the Director of Community Development, or his designee, as the staff representative. As you are aware, Ellen Hall many of the funds received to support local government services in Ventura County city of ojai are in whole, or in part, based upon population figures. Because these new Dr. Manuel Lopez population numbers will remain in effect for the next decade, achieving a complete city of Oxnard count can be very significant to our local governments. Jonathan Sharkey City of Pon Hunume The Board of Directors of VCOG indicated a support for a coordinated Census 2000 Complete Count effort. They asked that each member of the Board request Donald Johnson City of Santa Paula that the issue be placed upon the agenda for the eleven member agencies for discussion. It is further requested that each member agency respond back to the Gregory Stratton City of Simi Valley VCOG Executive Director, Arnold Dowdy, with your interest in the formation of a Ventura County Census 2000 Complete Count Committee.
