Traffenstedt, City Clerk -"D57 November 12, 1998 (CC Meeting of 11/18/98) SUBJECT: CONSIDER WAIVING COUNCIL POLICY FOR STANDING COMMITTEE AND OTHER COUNCIL COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS AT THE FIRST REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING IN JANUARY OF EACH YEAR. BACKGROUND Mayor Hunter has requested that an item be included on the agenda for the City Council to consider waiving Council Policy No. 6.2, City Council Standing Committees, Committee Appointments (Council Policies Resolution No. 98- 1509), which requires appointments to be made at the first regularly scheduled meeting in January of each year. He is requesting that the appointments instead be made at the first meeting in December (December 2), including appointments to Council Standing Committees, Ad Hoc Committees, other assignments and other agency committees (see attached committee assignments list dated October 1998). December 2 is also the date the newly elected Mayor and Councilmembers will be seated and the Mayor Pro Tempore will be selected. RECOMMENDATION Waive City Council policy and allow Council Standing Committee and other Council committee appointments to be made at the December 2, 1998 regular meeting.
