Nowak, Assistant City Manager November 16, 1998 (CC Meeting of 12/02/98) SUBJECT: CONSIDER OBJECTING TO SALE OF TAX- DEFAULTED PROPERTIES DISCUSSION: The City has received notice from the County Treasurer's Office of certain tax - defaulted properties within the City that will be offered for Public Auction Tax Sale scheduled for February 26, 1999. The City has the opportunity to object to the sale, which means the City could purchase the parcels at the tax default amount, if not redeemed by the auction date. Five parcels are included. 1) APN 511 -0- 030 -180 is located on Walnut Canyon Road and is within the right -of -way of the 118 bypass. ($5,500) 2) APN 512 -0- 093 -070 is located on Charles Street and has potential as an affordable housing site. ($11,000) 3) APN 12 -0- 081 -040 is located on Charles Street and has potential as an affordable housing site. ($12,000) 4) APN 513 -0- 033 -085 is located on Avenida Colonia has potential for inclusion in an affordable housing project. ($6,000) 000443 Tax - Default Properties Meeting of 02 December 1998 Page 02 5) APN 513 -0- 040 -145 located in the Virginia Colony area has potential for inclusion in an affordable housing project. ($5,500) If the City Council concurs with the objection, an "Agreement to Purchase" will be prepared. The first parcel could be purchased with Citywide Traffic Funds. All other parcels are eligible to be purchased with Redevelopment Agency housing set -aside funds. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council authorize staff to object to the sale of the tax - defaulted properties identified in the staff report, and authorize the City Manager to sign the related documents on behalf of the City.
