I� DATE: January 5, 1999 (CC Meeting of 1/20/99) SUBJECT: CONSIDER APPOINTMENTS TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION BACKGROUND The Parks and Recreation Commission consists of five members who serve two -year terms. All five seats on the Parks and Recreation Commission must be appointed at this time due to expiration of the term in December 1998. Applications were originally due on December 2, 1998, and the time period was extended to December 30, 1998, at 5:00 p.m. Nine (9) applications were received, and a copy of each application was previously provided to the Council for review. DISCUSSION Following is a list of the applicant names received by the close of the application period: Joseph Catrambone June Dubreuil Tina Hare Tim Kalemkarian Kipp Landis Janice Parvin Tom Pflaumer Sandra Thompson Mike Wooden The City Council adopted Resolution No. 98 -1509 on September 2, 1998, which sets forth the Council policies for citizen appointments to boards, commissions, and committees. The Council policies have been followed for the posting and publication of 000084 Parks and Recreation Commission Appointments Page 2 notice of the Parks and Recreation Commission vacancies. The Council's resolution states that the procedure for appointments shall be as follows: A. The Mayor shall solicit suggested nominees from members of the Council. B. The Mayor shall make a motion putting forth a single name to be approved for appointment. C. A second shall be required. D. The Council shall vote on each appointment individually. STAFF RECONNENDATION Select five (S) Parks and Recreation Commissioners to serve a two - year term to end December 2000. 0000851
