SUBJECT: Consider Award of Contract for Community Center
Re- Roofing Project
SUMMARY
The City's FY 1999/2000 Budget includes $40,000 to re -roof the
Community Center. Bids were solicited from roof contractors.
Three were received by the closing deadline of 2:00 p.m. on
October 8, 1999. The low qualified bidder was Star -Wes Roofing,
Inc. The City Council is being asked to award a contract to
Star -Wes Roofing and to authorize the City Manager to execute
said contract.
DISCUSSION
The City Council first allocated $40,0000 to re -roof the
Community Center in FY 1998/99. The work was not performed and
the allocation was carried over into the FY 1999/2000 Budget.
In response to the City's requests for bids, three bids were
received: Star -Wes Roofing, Inc., for $37,195 and Classic
Roofing Company Inc., for $56,926, and Bird Roofing and
Waterproofing, Inc, for $97,681.
The re- roofing work will not interfere with the Senior Center
Expansion work. The flat roof area, proposed for re- roofing,
will not be impacted by the room addition (s) It is staff's
intention to proceed with the re- roofing work within the next
three weeks and to complete the effort prior to work beginning
on the Expansion. This will ensure that the City does not have
to respond to roof leaks during another rainy season.

$40,000.
STAFF RECONNENDATION
It is recommended that City Council award a contract to Star -Wes
Roofing, Inc. to re -roof the Community Center for $37,195, plus
a contingency of $2,445, and authorize the City Manager to
execute said contract.
