Lindley, Director of Community Servicesrjc" June 8, 2000 (CC Meeting of June 21, 2000) SUBJECT: Adopt Resolution No. 2000 - , Amending the FY 1999/00 Budget to Purchase Lifeline Devices Using Older Americans Act Grant Funds DISCUSSION The Area Agency on Aging is offering the City an additional $6,000 in Older Americans Act Grant funds for the purchase of lifeline devises. This would increase the City's recent grant award from $21,700 to $27,700. Over the past eight years, the City of Moorpark has participated in the Lifeline Program in cooperation with Simi Valley Hospital. Lifeline devices are provided to low income, frail senior citizens who are homebound. The senior activates the devise by pressing a button. When activated, the devise places a call to the Hospital's emergency room and a designated person responds to the call. The grant money will purchase ten new lifeline devices. Currently, the City has 12 operational lifeline devices, seven of which are out dated models and need to be replaced. Once the ten new devices arrive, the seven out dated models will be replaced. The remaining three new devices will be used to expand the program, bringing the City's total inventory to 15.
