DISCUSSION
Consider Request For Funding From Moorpark Symphony
Orchestra
The City is in receipt of a letter from the Moorpark Symphony
Orchestra requesting funding in the amount of $5,000 (see
Attachment A). In return for granting the funding request, the
Symphony indicates that it will donate ten tickets to attend its
concerts this season.
On February 21, 2001, the City Council allocated $6,000 for
performing arts purposes. Of that $6,000, the Council
appropriated $1,000 to grant a funding request made by the New
West Symphony, which leaves $5,000 available.
Staff recommends that the Council grant the Moorpark Symphony
$1,000. If the Council wishes to consider funding the Symphony
at a higher level, it can do so as a part of it FY 2001/02
budget deliberations, which are scheduled to take place over the
next couple of months.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Approve the expenditure of $1,000 for the Moorpark Symphony.

City of Moorpark
Moorpark, CA
RE: Performing Arts Funding
Dear Mayor Hunter,
RECEIVED
MAR 2 6 2001
CITY CLERK'S DEPARTMENT
CITY OF MOQRPARK
I am contacting you on behalf of the MOORPARK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. It was
my pleasure to appear before your City Council Meeting back in January to introduce the
orchestra and its desire to bring classical music, quality performance, and music
education to the populace of Ventura County.
It has been brought to our attention that $5,000.00 has been allotted to fund Performing
Arts in the city of Moorpark. This letter is our intention of applying for the above
amount that would be used to purchase music, promote our concerts through flyers,
posters, advertisement, and community outreach for our 2001 season.
In recognition of your funding of $5,000.00 for the 2001 season, we will donate ten (10)
tickets to the City Council for the concerts this season and acknowledge your support on
all our programs.
If you need additional information, please call me or contact our conductor, Mr. James
J. Song.
