TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: Mary K. Lindley, Director of Community Services NE.
DATE: April 20, 2001 (CC Meeting of May 2, 2001)
SUBJECT: Approve the Extension of the City's Tree Maintenance
Agreement
DISCUSSION
On June 2, 2000, the City Council approved an agreement with
West Coast Arborist for the maintenance of City trees. The term
of the agreement expires on June 30, 2001, but it also contains
three one -year extensions which can be made at the City's
discretion and with the contractor's consent.
Staff proposes extending the Agreement with West Coast for one
year, through June 30, 2002. To date, the contractor's
performance has been good. They have responded quickly and
courteously to staff and resident inquires and requests for
corrections. As required by the agreement, they also completed
an inventory of all City trees. The data was collected in a
computer based software program that was provided to the City.
The inventory is kept current by West Coast each month so that
we have updated information about when certain trees last
received maintenance and when trees have been removed or new
ones planted.
West Coast is requesting a cost -of- living increase based on the
CPI from each of its contract cities. The CPI between March 2000
and March 2001 is 2.9 percent. The current fee for tree
maintenance is $39.00. A 2.9 percent increase would set the rate
at $40.13.
