City of Moorpark
AGENDA REPORT
TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: John Brand, Senior Management Analyst7JV7
DATE: September 24, 2003 (CC meeting of October 1, 2003)
SUBJECT: Consider Resolution No. 2003- , Establishing the Fares
for the City Transit Services, and Rescinding Resolution
2000 -1746.
SUM bIARY
The City Council is being asked make minor adjustments to the fare
structure of the Moorpark City Transit system. If approved, this
resolution would increase the age that small children may ride free
on buses from four to five years old. The child must be accompanied
by a parent, guardian or responsible person who is at least sixteen
years old. It would also increase the senior and disabled bus fare
by a dime, from 40G to 50G per ride. These changes will make
Moorpark fares more consistent with bus fares charged throughout
the other transit systems in the County. The regular bus fare would
remain unchanged at $1.00 for a one -way trip. The senior and
disabled Dial -A -Ride rates would also remain the same.
Every other transit operator in the County offers free rides to
children five and younger. The other systems also set their senior
and disabled fixed route bus fares at 50, except SCAT, which set
the fare at 60. The attached resolution would bring the City
system into alignment with the other services.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Resolution No. 2003- , establishing transit fares, and
rescind Resolution 2000 -1746.
