Gilbert, Director of Public Worka_,� Date: July 8, 2004 (Council Meeting 7- 21 -04) Subj: Notice of Completion for the Civic Center Driveway Modification Project [Project 80531 BACKGROUND • In September of 2003, the City Council approved a new project to construct certain improvements at the Civic Center site to improve vehicular access. • In November of 2003, the City Council approved the conceptual design for that project. • In February of 2004, the City Council approved the plans and specifications and authorized staff to advertise for bids upon receipt of the required Caltrans Permit. • In March of 2004, the City received the Caltrans Permit and the project was advertised. • In May of 2004 the City Council awarded a construction contract for the project to Lee Construction. DISCUSSION A. Project Description The scope of the project includes: 1) the widening and re- striping of the driveway onto Moorpark Avenue, to provide a left /thru lane plus a right -turn lane for egress traffic; and 2) the construction of site modifications to facilitate ingress and egress traffic between the west end of the Library parking lot and High Street, through the old mobile home park property. Quantity Adjustments: As is typical with public works construction projects, the actual quantities required for the job differed from the engineer's estimate. This project required more quantities of certain bid items resulting in additional costs of $1,958.45. 2. Final Inspection and Acceptance The City has completed a final inspection of the project and has found the work to be acceptable. At this time it would be appropriate for the City Council to accept the project as complete and direct the City Clerk to record the Notice of Completion to start the final lien period. Absent the receipt of any Stop Notices from subcontractors or suppliers, the ten percent retention will be released thirty -five (35) days after the date of the recordation of that notice. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Accept the work as complete and authorize the City Clerk to file the Notice of Completion. Civic center driveway_cmp ©0019:1
