Eight bus shelters were fabricated and installed at various locations earlier this year. The contract included a provision that would allow the City to order and install additional shelters at the same fixed price. On October 4, 2004, the City Transportation and Streets Committee (Council Members Harper & Millhouse) reviewed a list of possible bus shelter sites and selected twelve for the next phase of bus shelter installation. The City Council is being asked to authorize the procurement of the twelve additional bus shelters recommended by the Committee. The bus stops proposed by the Committee for installation of bus shelters are: 1. Second @ Millard 2. High Street @ Moorpark Metrolink Station 3. Princeton (old L.A.) @ Spring 4. Princeton @ Kavlico (across from Condor) 5. Princeton across from Varsity Park Plaza 6. Campus Park @ Penn (EB) 7. Campus Park @ Marquette (EB) 8. Campus Park @ Marquette (WB) 9. Collins @ Campus Park 10. Park Crest Lane 'fir 0 '; Honorable City Council October 20, 2004 Page 2 11. Los Angeles Avenue @ Park Lane 12. Shasta @ Los Angeles Avenue The unit price for each shelter is $4,000. With inspection and minor site work, the total estimate cost per unit is $5,000 for a total cost of $60,000 for the bus shelter project. In addition to the bus shelter project, staff is in the process of selecting and procuring trashcans to be installed at existing and proposed bus shelter locations. The estimated cost to purchase and install the trashcans is $10,000. The adopted FY 2004 -2005 budget includes $140,000 in Transportation Development Act (TDA) local transit revenue for bus stop improvements, which is more than sufficient to handle the proposed work. Therefore, no budget amendment is necessary. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Authorize the purchase of twelve bus shelters for installation at the locations identified in the Agenda Report. 0001 S6
