HomeMy WebLinkAboutAGENDA REPORT 2005 0406 CC REG ITEM 10KITEM 10 • 1(- CITY OF MOORPARK, CALIFORNIA City Council Meeting MOORPARK CITY COUNCIL of �-/ g_O�J' AGENDA REPORT TO: The Honorable City Council FROM: Mary Lindley, Community Services Dir Peggy Rothschild, Senior Center Coorainazor DATE: March 28, 2005 (CC Meeting of April 6, 2005) SUBJECT: Consider Adoption of Resolution Authorizing the Submittal of a Ventura County Area Agency on Aging Grant Application for Older Americans Act Title III -D for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion One -Time- Only Funds and Authorizing City Manager to Sign All Related Agreements DISCUSSION The City Council is being asked to adopt a resolution (Attachment A) approving and authorizing the submittal of a grant application to the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging (VCAAA) for one - time -only Older Americans Act (OAA) funds in the amount of $8,000 for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. To be eligible, agencies must be able to spend the funds by the end of the current fiscal year (June 30, 2005). These funds are being awarded on a one - time -only basis, through the Older Americans Act Title III -D. The City of Moorpark Active Adult Center provides a variety of services to older adults focusing on health, fitness, education and creativity. Staff proposes using the grant funds to purchase Emergency Preparation Equipment for Older Adults, including Personal Survival Kits and Power Failure Emergency Lights. This equipment would be distributed free of charge to older adults through the Active Adult Center. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Adopt Resolution No. 2005- Attachment: A- Resolution 000.399 d Honorable City Council April 6, 2005 Page 2 ATTACHMENT A RESOLUTION NO. 2005- RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MOORPARK, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING A GRANT APPLICATION REQUESTING MONIES FROM THE VENTURA COUNTY AREA AGENCY ON AGING ( VCAAA) FOR OLDER AMERICANS ACT TITLE III -D FUNDING TO PURCHASE EMERGENCY PREPARATION EQUIPMENT FOR OLDER ADULTS, TO BE DISTRIBUTED BY THE MOORPARK ACTIVE ADULT CENTER WHEREAS, disaster preparedness is crucial to stabilizing the lives of older adults affected by disaster; and WHEREAS older Americans and concerns that make them effects of a disaster; and have a number of characteristics particularly vulnerable to the WHEREAS, funds to purchase equipment benefiting the health of older adults in Ventura County are available on a one -time basis in the form of a grant through the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging ( VCAAA). NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MOORPARK DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council hereby approves and authorizes the grant application through the VCAAA to secure funds for Emergency Preparation Equipment for Older Adults for distribution through the Moorpark Active Adult Center. Further, the City Council hereby authorizes Steven Kueny, City Manager, to serve as signatory for the City Council on all matters related to the administration of this grant. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of the resolution and shall cause a certified resolution to be filed in the book of original resolutions. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of April, 2005.
