SUBJECT: Consider Resolution in Support of Growth Options for
the 21St Century (Go21) Mission and Statement of
Principles
BACKGROUND /DISCUSSION
On May 4, 2005 the City Council considered a Power Point
presentation that Councilmember Mikos had received from the
League of California Cities' Committee on Transportation,
Communication and Public Works (TCPW). The presentation,
prepared by Growth Options for the 21St Century (Go21), a
national nonprofit grass roots organization committed to
promoting freight transportation alternatives, communicated the
benefits of rail intermodal transportation. The City Council
directed staff to prepare a resolution in support of Go21
Mission and Statement of Principles to remove trucks from the
roadways and enhance rail infrastructure to handle increased use
of freight transportation, to include language proposed by
Councilmember Harper "to propose grade separated rail
crossings," and to place the resolution on the Consent Calendar
for the May 18, 2005 meeting.
