HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 2021 0503 PR REGMINUTES OF THE REGULAR PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION Moorpark, California May 3, 2021 A Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Moorpark was held on May 3, 2021 at the Moorpark Community Center located at 799 Moorpark Avenue, Moorpark, California. 1. CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Gunning called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice Chair Flame led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Staff Present: Commissioners Estrella, Ho, Morgan, Vice Chair Flame and Chair Gunning. Jeremy Laurentowski, Parks and Recreation Director and Kimberly Sexton, Administrative Assistant II. 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None. 5. REORDERING OF, AND ADDITIONS TO, THE AGENDA: None. 6. ANNOUNCEMENTS, FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS, AND REPORTS ON MEETINGS/CONFERENCES ATTENDED BY COUNCILMEMBERS AND MAYOR: Commissioner Morgan reported on May 1 he attended the Moorpark Earth Festival and Arbor Day Celebration at Arroyo Vista Community Park and noted the City gave away 100 fruitless olive trees and the event was well attended. Chair Gunning reported on May 1 he attended the Moorpark Earth Festival and Arbor Day Celebration at Arroyo Vista Community Park and noted in addition to the event, the fields and basketball courts were all in use. PRESENTATION/ACTION/DISCUSSION: A Consider Update on Attendance at 2021 CPRS Conference. Staff Recommendation: Commissioners provide feedback on attendance at the 2021 Virtual CPRS Conference. Vice Chair Flame reported he attended the 2021 CPRS Conference in March and viewed a session titled Community Engagement Tools in a Virtual World. Commissioner Estrella reported he attended the 2021 CPRS Conference in March and participated in a Youth Sports roundtable discussion and viewed sessions on Sportsmanship and City Park Planning. Commissioner Morgan reported he attended the 2021 CPRS Conference in March and complemented CPRS on putting together a valuable event. Chair Gunning reported he attended the 2021 CPRS Conference in March and viewed sessions title Cost Recovery Measures, The Dollar and Cents of Parks and Recreation and Can Revenue Goals and Equity Co-Exist. There were no speakers. B. Consider Additional Softball Fencing at Mountain Meadows Park. Staff Recommendation: Make a recommendation to the City Council to approve the installation of a 16' height foul line fence along the east side of the south softball field at Mountain Meadows Park. Ms. Laurentowski gave the report. There were no speakers. MOTION: Commissioner Estrella moved and Vice Chair Flame seconded a motion to continue Item 7.B. to the Special Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting of May 16, 2021. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote. C. Consider Dates for Spring Park Tour. Staff Recommendation: Select a date and five or six parks to tour during the Spring 2021 Special Commission meeting. Ms. Laurentowski gave the report. There were no speakers. MOTION: Vice Chair Flame moved and Commissioner Ho seconded a motion to schedule the 2021 spring park tour for Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 11 :00 AM. and Minutes of the Regular Park and Recreation Commission Moorpark, California Page 3 May 3, 2021 to include Mountain Meadows Park, Tierra Rejada Park , Arroyo Vista Community Park , Miller Park, Mammoth Park and Monte Vista Park . The motion carried by unanimous voice vote . 8. CONSENT CALENDAR: A. Aooroval of Minutes of the Regular Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting of March 1, 2021. Staff Recommendation: Approve as presented . MOTION : Commissioner Morgan moved and Commissioner Ho seconded a motion to approve the consent calendar. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote. 9.
