Quarterly Report
July — September 2021
Highlights
The Southern California Library Cooperative is providing member libraries with a 2 -year
subscription to PressReader. This service will allow patrons to get unlimited access to
more than 7,000 newspapers and magazines from around the globe and will begin on
October 1.
The California State Library is providing access for all local libraries to six digital platforms
designed to help Californians and their communities recover from the pandemic. There is
no charge for the first year, but these online resources are being paid for with one-time
federal pandemic relief funds and, as a consequence, will require other sources of
revenue to continue beyond the one year the State Library is paying for. Based on this
knowledge, the Library has elected to offer two platforms, GetSetUp and Linkedln
Learning.
GetSetUp - https://www.getsetup.io/
Is a social learning platform for individuals 50+, taught by peers. The classes are live and
consist of digital learning, physical health, mental health, social health, and vocational
health. Patrons will receive a pass or code to be able to access all the classes they would
like to participate in for a month at a time
Linkedln Learning - https://www.linkedin.com/learning/
• Focuses on the skills needed to land jobs that are currently in -demand (based on
workforce and labor market data, the future of work predictions, and current trends)
• Provides professional certificates that can be added to a Linkedln profile
• Includes a focus on the "whole" person during the pandemic, emphasizing and creating
new mental health and wellness resources, guidance for managing stress/burnout, and
other topical items like "Balancing Work and Life as a Work from -Home Parent"
Recruitment has begun for two, part-time Library Associates. The Library Associate is
truly the face of the Library and is responsible for assisting patrons with library technology,
locating and checking -out materials, reference transactions, and creating displays.

Collections:
Physical material use has increased significantly since the Library building reopened in
April 2021. The ability to browse the collection provides patrons with opportunities to
discover new materials and expand learning. Though slightly down this quarter, the
circulation of e -materials remains popular among patrons, especially video streaming.
The issue of over -crowding in the teen fiction section was addressed this quarter. Thanks
to some large-scale weeding projects undertaken in the last year, staff was able to move
the children's non-fiction collection out of the teen space and expand the teen fiction and
graphic novel collections. This expansion will make the teen collection easier to browse
and create a more welcoming space for our teen population. A new middle grades
collection was also developed with a mix of juvenile and teen materials. These titles are
more sophisticated than a children's book or picture book, but not as emotionally or
thematically advanced as young adult fiction.
