Subject: Request for new pickleball courts
Good morning Mr Groff,
There has been a significant surge in pickleball players in the last year. There are now times where
we may spend about ¼ of our 'play' time waiting for a court. Moorpark needs more pickleball
courts.
I'd like to request that Moorpark build new courts or repurpose some less used or unused facilities.
Many players play in the evening. Having court lights is an important consideration.
Thanks. Stephen

Hello Daniel,
As you may know or have heard we are in dire need of more Pickleball courts. Specifically lighted courts. Our only
lighted courts (4 courts) are often filled with classes and/or people wanting to play. For a community of our size
with the popularity of pickleball we have a significant demand for more courts. I ask that you and your fellow
council members please take this into serious consideration.
Pleasant Valley Parks and Recreation in Camarillo might be a great contact for growing and establishing pickleball
courts as they have several initiatives to build more courts.
It's a real shame that I have to drive out of my own community three to four nights a week to Simi Valley, Newbury
Park and Camarillo just up play a game that I love and would love to enjoy with those I love near.
Thank you,
Ryan Loftis

Dear Daniel,
Since you are a pickleball player and on the city the council, I know you hear it all the time-"We need
more pickleball courts." But it's true, as the sport is growing, Moorpark needs more courts. We have
full enrollment in the park and active adult classes and the tournaments are popular.
You know all the benefits of Pickleball, so I won't go into all that, but you know that it is great for all
ages, and families, and we have a great Pickleball community. My family has been playing for awhile
now. Dieter was the one that convinced Jeremy to put in the first courts, and we are grateful for
them and the ones at Miller, but now it is time to look into getting more courts like Thousand Oaks,
Simi Valley and Camarillo.
Thanks for your time and hope to see you out on the courts soon!

Hi, my name is Warren Holden and my wife and I have been Moorpark residents for 30 yrs. I’m writing this email
in hopes to get your support for getting approval for additional pickleball courts to be developed. The current courts
are over crowded and this sport is growing like wildfire. The city has been very good about providing adequate
space and accommodation for various sports in the area, and due to the growth rate, it’s time that we install
additional courts. I have personally witnessed some uncomfortable exchanges between tennis players and pickleball
players arguing about court time. This causes unnecessary confrontation between our neighbors and is not good for
the community as a hole. I really appreciate you taking this request seriously and support getting additional lighted
courts developed in an area that won’t disturb neighboring homes as the sport does come with noise that is not
wanted to be heard during play by nearby residents.
Thank you for your attention!
-Warren Holden

Dear Councilman Daniel Groff,
I have to begin with that I love living here in Moorpark, and
have been here almost 16 years and plan on living here longer.
As you know, I am an avid pickleball player here in Moorpark. I
have been playing for over 2 years and have met the most
wonderful people here in Moorpark!
I’m sure you have heard that as a regular pickleball player, we
are in desperate need of more courts in our beautiful town!
Our sport has been growing very fast and the courts we have
currently are just not enough to keep up with the demand of
this wonderful sport!
This exciting sport is not only growing in our community but in
our surrounding communities and our surrounding
communities are acknowledging this growth and increasing
their courts with the demand of this growth! I believe that we
need to grow with this demand in our own beautiful
community! This would not only benefit the growing
community of players, but also within the growth of our
9
wonderful town! The growth of pickleball courts could bring so
much to our town such as more growth within our restaurants
but also our hotel!
I would go further and pledge my volunteer services to provide
any help to grow this exciting sport in our community whether
it be in developing these new courts that are in such high
demand or in future tournaments which could bring in so
much profit for our beautiful town!
Please feel free to contact me with any help or support you
may need to move this forward!
Thank you so much for your time and consideration! We hope
that this brings attention to you and your colleagues to
consider putting the need for more pickleball courts on your
agenda for future council meetings!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!

Hi Daniel,
I would like to request the city of Moorpark build dedicated pickleball courts with lights for the citizens of
Moorpark.
The courts we have are inadequate for the current number of players and there are many more players joining every
day. We desperately need new pickleball courts.
Thank you for all you do for Moorpark.
Best,

Subject: Moorpark, new Pickleball courts
Hello Daniel,
In addition to my last message expressing the concern about the sound barriers at the Tierra Rejada pickle ball
courts I also wanted to express my advocacy for getting new pickle ball courts in Moorpark.
In my experience, there’s quite a bit of demand for more permanent Pickleball courts in the city of Moorpark. Often
times I find that at Tierra Rejada Park and Miller Park there are many people waiting to play because of the high
demand and limited number of courts. I have seen what appeared to be players new to the sport show up at those
times and leave without playing because of the crowds. I’ve been at Miller park multiple times when there’s a
conflict between tennis players staying longer than the time set on the rules and and an uncomfortable number of
pickle ball players waiting around for a chance to play.
It would really be great if the city could build more courts at Arroyo Vista Park for the sole purpose of Pickleball.
Moorpark seems like the type of city that could afford such a project and the finished courts could really be a
shining star of achievement and an example of meeting the needs of its constituents. Please let me know if there’s
any way I can help in supporting such a project.
Best regards
Oscar Vascos

Daniel,
This email is written with much frustration with regard to our pickleball predicament. I play about 5-
6x a week and it has come to my attention that the city will be installing even more sound barrier
shields onto the courts to quell the neighbors yet once again. Why is it that city kowtows to them
always? When one buys a house next to a park it yields park noise whether it be pickleball, tennis,
basketball or picnickers it comes with the territory. Pickleball players will suffer by adding
unbreathable barriers that will create a hot box limiting air flow and the visibility whilst waiting for
play. Ojai parks recreation installed them and had to remove them because of the great heat they
created. This summer the courts are going to become so uncomfortably hot not to mention during
the winter months condensation drips from them and onto the courts as it melts but the neighbors
will be happy they got their barriers. Us players have been asking for over 2 years to replace the two
breathable wind shields that were torn down from the winds in the same spots (north east side) on
both Tierra Rejada and Miller courts and still we got nothing claiming that the there is a back order
due to Covid, hmmm? I guess there’s no back order for sound barriers.
The above was for the immediate frustration we are facing but let’s address the future. We do need
REAL courts and what Moorpark has to offer is not enough and embarrassing compared to other
neighboring cities Simi Valley, Camarillo (they are breaking ground for even more), Thousand Oaks,
and Newbury Park. I was just in Newman, GA with a population of about the same as Moorpark and
they just built 15 public lighted (no coins for lights) courts The House of Pickleball
www.newmanpickleball.com. A new pickleball complex for Moorpark (ideally at Arroyo Vista) would
be a welcome addition for our beautiful city. It could also bring in additional income by hosting
tournaments and keep neighbors of Tierra Rejada park happier because of less noise.
Please seriously consider this option on the next agenda. Did you know that Pickleball is the fastest
growing sport in America?
Respectfully,
Lisa Aamoth

Subject: Pickelball courts - Moorpark needs dedicated courts with lights
Hello Mr. Groff,
Pickleball has become very popular and the courts in Moorpark are growing over crowded. We do
not have enough courts and we do not have any true pickleball courts in Moorpark.
Last Sunday, I went to the only dedicated courts we have been Moorpark, which are at Tierra Rejada
Park by Vons, and there were 20 people waiting to play because all four courts were in use. A group
of us then drove over to Miller Park to play. Although we enjoy the lesser crowded courts at Miller
Park, these courts are shared with tennis players and having both sports lines drawn on the court
makes it more challenging to see whether balls are in an out. Plus the rolling nets aren't as sturdy
and tend to droop, thus affecting the outcomes of games.
None of the courts we have in Moorpark are truly pickleball dedicated. We appreciate the courts at
Tierra Rejada because tennis players cannot play on them, but they are shorter than regulation and
players are regularly running into the fences around the courts during normal play. Plus, they do not
have lights and this shorten when they can be used.
The community of Moorpark could use courts that are built to pickleball size and regulation,
especially with lights, so the community could enjoy the sport of pickleball year round. Please let me
know if I can help with anything to make this happen.
Thank you for reading and considering,
Chris Darrow
