Moorpark City Library
Quarterly Report
January - March 2022
Highlights
In February, the Moorpark City Library was awarded $2,219 in California Library
Services Act funds for the Zip Books grant project. Zip Books is a statewide project of
the California State Library. The project bridges the gaps between a library's patron
request service, normal acquisitions process, and outreach/home-delivery service.
Materials are ordered through Amazon and shipped directly to the patrons. When
patrons finish with the materials, they return them to the Library, which decides whether
to add the materials to its collection.
The Library was selected to receive $500 in cost reimbursement from the California
State Library and the Southern California Library Cooperative (SCLC) to engage in Dia
de los Ninos events.
As an applicant for#PlantWildflowers, we will receive 500 free regional packets of
wildflower seeds, a DVD copy of My Garden of a Thousand Bees, 200 bee ID cards,
and access to all educational and event materials.
The Youth Services Librarian attended Campus Canyon Elementary School's Virtual
Family Literacy Night on March 2. In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, she read One Fish,
Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish to 46 students. The teacher who organized the event
also created a flyer with a QR code that linked to the Library's online registration for a
library card.
This quarter, the young adult librarian, Aaren Tucker, held a Teen Space banner
competition. Teens helped replace the outdated sign in the Library's Teen Space by
submitting their banner designs. Then the Teen Advisory Group chose three finalists,
and all teens could vote for their favorite design online. The winning design was
installed in April, and a reel was shared on the teen Instagram page to highlight the new
banner and all the other significant changes we've made to our teen space in the past
months. At the time of this report, the reel had been viewed 5,422 times!
Youth Services librarian, Meg Thackoorie, has retired after 14 years of service with the
Moorpark City Library. Her last day was Thursday, March 31, 2022. Recruitment for the
vacant position began in April.
Recruitment has also begun for two part-time Library Associates.

Programming:
In January, the Library hosted a Stuffed Animal Adoption Day where children could adopt
a stuffed animal in need of a loving home. Over sixty families attended, and 35 stuffed
animals found new homes. Children had much fun choosing their pets and received a
certificate of adoption. They committed to loving, reading to, and taking care of their new
friend.
Future Einsteins is a new STEM program developed and run by a local high school honor
student for elementary-aged children. The program meets twice a month and has two
sessions: Grades 1-2 at 10:00 AM and Grades 3-5 at 11:00 AM. So far, the children have
learned about static electricity, inertia, chemical reactions, the respiratory system, and
how plants absorb water from their roots.

Teen registration and attendance for the Comic Book Club boosted this quarter! In
January, several new members joined, and some lapsed members returned in February.
If enrollment continues to grow, the club will split into two: one for middle school and one
for high school.
The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) planned a Sharpie Tie-Dye program for grades 6-12,
which took place on Saturday, April 9, in the park outside the Library. This program was
a big success for TAG and had the highest attendance for an in-person teen program. All
participants responded that they had fun doing the program and enjoyed the opportunity
to be outside in the lovely spring weather.

Online Engagement:
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has made several changes to the Business Suite,
making it difficult to track data as we have previously. Beginning this quarter, we will track
the number of visits to our social media pages and YouTube channel. Visits refer to the
number of times a page was visited versus reach, which estimates the number of people
who saw any content from the Library's page or about the Library's page.
In March, there was a significant leap in the number of views for the Library's webpage,
resulting in it being the most viewed page of the City's website. The staff has worked hard
to keep the information on the website up-to-date and continue to clean up and simplify

the pages. None of the other pages on the City's website have seen this much growth,
so the Library staff is working with City staff to drill down the data and identify additional
information that would help us understand when and how people are using the website.

Ad Hoc Committee Report
June 2022
Committee Members
Moorpark Library Board members—Sandra Banks, Linda Goble
➢ Moorpark Friends of the Library- Rosalie Barili, Diana Fowler
• Moorpark Women's Fortnightly Club - Dona Pugh
• Moorpark Library Director—Christine Conwell
Committee Purpose
The purpose of the ad hoc committee is to raise funds to support equipping the
planned new Moorpark City Library and to raise awareness of the new Library
project.
Accomplishments
➢ The Moorpark Friends of the Library (MFOTL) and the Moorpark Women's Fortnightly
Club (MWFC) agreed to work with the Library Board Ad Hoc Committee. It was agreed
that funds raised will go through the MFOTL, as they are already an established non-
profit organization.
• A meeting was held with Linda Demmers to discuss fundraising—for what, how and
when. A follow up meeting with Linda D will be scheduled with all named committee
members to be invited.
• At the first meeting of the full ad hoc committee, Linda Goble was named as the
committee lead.
➢ After a year in a pause due to the pandemic, the committee held 2 meetings.
• A spreadsheet layout was approved for tracking donations.
➢ Sandra Banks replaces Michael Marshall on the committee.
• Developed a social media communication plan for the new Library. Dona Pugh created
a Facebook page for the Ad Hoc Committee. (Moorpark City Library Board Ad Hoc
Committee)
Planned Activities
➢ Create an exhibit of the plan for the new library to be displayed in the current library
and one to be used to bring to speaking engagements.
• Identify a couple of people who can help us communicate with our Latin-x population.
➢ Find an appropriate spokesperson that can provide their name and influence in the
community for this project.
A Plan activities that will raise awareness of the project. Those activities will begin around
January. Actions will include speaking to community organizations and groups to
request their help in reaching out into the community with information. We have
begun to develop a list of organizations.
• Activities to raise funds for the new library will begin when the project has progressed
further.
Develop a list of volunteers.
• Develop a single consistent message that all committee members and volunteers will
use and will be used as a part of all speeches and presentations.
• Define a process for handling donations—soliciting, bookkeeping, acknowledgement,
etc. A spreadsheet for tracking donations has been agreed on.
➢ The next committee meeting is scheduled for August 5.
