The grant promotes the development and growth of public libraries throughout California by offering funding, access to resources and ongoing technical assistance. The Library was awarded $2,648 from the California State Library for the 2022-2023 Zip Books program. The 2022 Summer Learning Club, Read Beyond the Beaten Path, ended on August 5. A total of 54,829 minutes were logged by 156 readers. This year's program was only virtual, which tends to have a lower number of registered participants but higher engagement. Prizes included coupons for free books and treats from local restaurants, a backpack with water bottle for kids and a portable power bank for teens. The grand prize for one lucky reader was basic camping equipment and entry at the City's Summer Camp Out. This summer, Moorpark residents read Leave Only Footprints: My Acadia-to-Zion Journey Through Every National Park by Conor Knighton for the Library's One Book, One Community program. 100 copies of the book were given away within days of launching the program and an additional 56 copies were checked out from the Library. One Book, One Community activities included discussion groups, virtual outdoor training sessions led by Community Nature Connection, and programs related to nature conservation and sustainability.
