Quarterly Report
July — September 2022
Highlights:
The Moorpark City Library was awarded $4.6 million in grant funding from the Building
Forward Grant Program provided by the California State Library. The grant promotes
the development and growth of public libraries throughout California by offering funding,
access to resources and ongoing technical assistance.
The Library was awarded $2,648 from the California State Library for the 2022-2023 Zip
Books program.
The 2022 Summer Learning Club, Read Beyond the Beaten Path, ended on August 5.
A total of 54,829 minutes were logged by 156 readers. This year's program was only
virtual, which tends to have a lower number of registered participants but higher
engagement. Prizes included coupons for free books and treats from local restaurants,
a backpack with water bottle for kids and a portable power bank for teens. The grand
prize for one lucky reader was basic camping equipment and entry at the City's Summer
Camp Out.
This summer, Moorpark residents read Leave Only Footprints: My Acadia-to-Zion
Journey Through Every National Park by Conor Knighton for the Library's One Book,
One Community program. 100 copies of the book were given away within days of
launching the program and an additional 56 copies were checked out from the Library.
One Book, One Community activities included discussion groups, virtual outdoor
training sessions led by Community Nature Connection, and programs related to nature
conservation and sustainability.

Moorpark patrons now have free online access to the New York Times. This
subscription is offered by the State Library in partnership with the Southern California
Library Cooperative at no cost to public libraries. This offer features direct access to
nytimes.com from 1851 to right now, including:
• All regular newspaper content (articles, editorials, etc.)
• All multimedia, including video, photography, VR features, and all new
multimedia to come
• Spanish and Mandarin Chinese versions of nytimes.com
• Personalized access, including e-mail newsletters such as California Today,
mobile apps* for phones and tablets, with customizable news feeds, and article
recommendations based on topics you most commonly read about.
Beginning in September, every Californian can now access free online tutoring available
24/7 through the California State Library Brainfuse HelpNow program. Because the
State program overlapped with Moorpark City Library's current HelpNow subscription,
the Library will also offer Brainfuse's Online Career and Resume Assistance JobNow
program through 8/31/2024.
The California State Library received funds in the California State Budget to continue
access for public libraries to digital workforce platforms, CAreer Pathways, that have
been offered the last nine months. The Moorpark City Library will expand from offering
three digital workforce platforms, GetSetUp, Linkedln Learning, and VetNow, to six
platforms including Learning Express/Job & Career Accelerator, Coursera, and
Skillshare. All that's needed to access these tools that would cost $1,000 or more to
subscribe to on your own is a library card.

Programming:
This summer, teens participated in a virtual Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) campaign led
by a professional Dungeon Master. The Library offered two four-week series split
between middle and high school students. Since the program ended in August, several
teens have started to meet in person at the Library to run their own campaign. Library
staff is currently exploring ways to offer D&D as a regular, year-round program.
Since moving to the second Saturday of the month at 2:00pm, attendance at Read It &
Eat It has doubled to a consistent 10 members and 1-2 visitors. This quarter,
participants tried out dishes that were served on a stick, sandwiches or wraps, and
featured apples.
Local author, Ryan Blanck, celebrated the release of his ninth book and first novel, Two
On Two Out, with a reading and presentation on Saturday, September 17.

about the City Bus, Waste Management Trash Truck, and several construction vehicles.
Inside the Library, Riya from Future Einsteins led a wind-powered car craft using
recycled materials, and competitors with the First Lego League presented a model and
agreement for solar powered street lights.
Sensory Shenanigans is a new program that provides caregivers and little one's ages

processes while they play, create, and investigate! September's theme was dinosaur
and included activities such as a fossil dig, colorful foam, oil & water lava bags, drums,
