CONSIDER OPTIONS FOR PICKLEBALL BACKGROUND 2016 City Council approves Parks and Recreation Commission’s recommendation to convert one existing tennis court at Tierra Rejada Park to four pickleball courts. 2019 City Council directs the Parks and Recreation Commission to consider additional pickleball courts. City Council approves striping two existing tennis courts at Miller Park for both tennis and pickleball. 2022 City Council directs the Parks and Recreation Commission to consider additional pickleball courts. OPTION A –AVRC -EAST OF TENNIS COURTS OPTION B –AVRC –MULTI-USE COURT OPTION C –AVRC –EXISTING ATHLETIC FIELD OPTION D –CHAPARRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL OPTION E –AVRC –EXISTING TENNIS COURTS MILLER PARK –EXISTING PICKLEBALL/TENNIS COURTS NOISE CONSIDERATIONS City’s municipal code, section 17.53.080, prohibits any source of sound which causes the noise level when measured at any other property to exceed 60 decibels between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. in residential zones. STAFF IS SEEKING CONSENSUS FROM THE CITY COUNCIL: 1.Provide direction to staff regarding temporary pickleball courts at the locations identified in the staff report (Options B, D, E). 2.Defer a decision on permanent pickleball courts until the special City Council meeting in March regarding the City Council Goals and Objectives for the FY 2023/24 and FY 2024/25 planning cycle. 3.Provide direction to staff regarding reduced hours for pickleball at neighborhood parks.
