1. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 5:09 p.m. by Teen Council President, William Grake.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by member, Samantha Sternstein.
3. ROLL CALL:
Present: Azizah Anekwe, Erica Chen, Rishi Gopanapalli, William Gratke, Melanie
Jimenez, Jaynie Jindarat, Atussa Maghsoudloo, Rakshitha Rajamani,
Maribel Rodriguez, Samantha Sternstein, Jade Yakel, and Abhay
Yoganathan.
Absent: Sruthi Gopanapalli, Ethan Jones, and Sarvan Padala.
Staff Present: Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT:
None.
5. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS:
A. “Breakfast with Santa” Event Debrief
i. Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, thanked members of Teen
Council for volunteering for this event and for bringing helpful friends to
volunteer as well.
ii. Teen Council members added helpful suggestions for this event in the
future, including having additional volunteers so that Teen Council
members can focus on serving one table at a time.
iii. Overall members enjoyed participating in this event.
B. Looking ahead at volunteer opportunities in 2022
i. Easter Egg Hunt on April 16, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
i. Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, expressed the importance
of volunteering for this event as it is a large community event. She
discussed various components of the event and asked Teen Council
members to bring a trustworthy friend to volunteer.
ii. Moorpark Earth Festival on May 7, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
i. Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, encouraged Teen Council
members to be present, and the group discussed ideas for having a
booth. Ideas included a children’s area with games and an obstacle
course, face painting, rock painting, and others.
C. Discussion of Teen Events with Subcommittees
i. Due to a loss of meetings for one month due to a surge in the COVID-19

pandemic, subcommittees were not able to plan or discuss future event
ideas.
D. Consideration of City Council policies regarding Teen Council
i. Discussion about prior City Council policies relating to Teen Council, and
discussed how the current Teen Council felt about them. This was in
reference to the size of Teen Council, how many meetings should be held
per month, etc.
6. ANNOUNCEMENTS/FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
Agreed that there will be no more Zoom meetings.

5. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS:
A. Discussion of City’s “Easter Egg Hunt” & Teen Council’s participation
i. Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, discussed details regarding the
upcoming Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Teen Council
members had the opportunity to share feedback from prior years, and
worked together to begin brainstorming ideas for components that Teen
Council could contribute to the event.
B. Discussion of City’s “Moorpark Earth Festival” & Teen Council’s participation
i. Moorpark Earth Festival on May 7, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
i. Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, encouraged Teen Council
members to be present, and the group discussed ideas for having a
booth. Ideas included a children’s area with games and an obstacle
course, face painting, rock painting, and others.
C. Consideration of events for future Teen Council to execute in Fall of 2022
i. Acknowledging the difficulties of planning an event before the end of the
current Teen Council’s term, the group discussed events that could be held
early on in the cycle for future Teen Council members. Ideas included a
coastal clean-up day, a teen picnic day, home run derby, among other
ideas.

D. Teen Council recruitment timeline
i. Recreation Coordinator, Andrea Moncada, spoke with Teen Council
members regarding the upcoming recruitment timeline for the next Teen
Council. The application period will open on April 24, 2022 and
applications must be submitted no later than June 3, 2022.

5. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS:
A. Discussion of City’s “Easter Egg Hunt” & Teen Council’s Participation.
i. Volunteers Needed.
ii. Event is April 16, 2022, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
iii. Sign Up Sheet was passed around and members wrote down their
availability times.
B. Discussion of City’s “Moorpark Earth Festival” & Teen Council’s Participation.
i. Teen Council Members were asked to brainstorm ideas of possible tabling
activities, Earth related, that they can host at their table at the event.
ii. Event is May 7, 2022, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
iii. Members shared that some might not be able to attend due to Mother’s Day .
C. Verbal Reminder of the Teen Council Recruitment Timeline.
i. Applications are due no later than May 16th for next year’s Teen Council.
D. Discussion about the Teen Council Recognition at Future City Council Meeting.
i. Two possible dates were presented: 5/18 or 6/1.
ii. Teen Council voted: May 18 (4 votes) and June 1 (6 votes).
iii. Final decision: June 1st at 6:30 p.m. Location is City Hall.

E. Discussion of Subcommittees for Future Teen Council.
i. Unanimously agreed to continue subcommittees for future Teen Council.
ii. Current subcommittees: Sports, Trash Pickup, Teen Art, Teen Picnic and
Mental Health.
iii. Discussed possibly having a trash pickup event before or as the last
meeting.
6. ANNOUNCEMENTS/FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
Agreed that there will be no more Zoom meetings.
