Moorpark City Library
Quarterly Report
October— December 2022
Highlights:
The Moorpark City Library's children and teen librarians attended Flory's Halloween
Carnival on Friday, October 28, where they crafted 204 spooky-themed bookmarks with
attendees. And on Monday, October 31 , they hosted a pumpkin patch/craft area at the
City's Haunted High Street event, where 280 small pumpkins were given away!
The second annual Tiny Art Show was on display through November. This year's event
was open to all ages and included submissions from two local elementary classes. Of
the 163 registered participants, 88 returned completed art to be displayed.
Staff from the Moorpark City Library participated in the fifth annual Holiday on High
Street event on December 3. In addition to promoting upcoming Library events and e-
resources, staff helped 200 participants create a keepsake ornament.
This quarter the Library launched a monthly eNewsletter highlighting upcoming
programs and resources. As of December 31, 2022, there are 1,715 subscribers.

Collections:
In September, a new YA Book Box program was introduced for teens in grades 6-12 to
highlight our young adult collection. Like a subscription box you might receive in the
mail (but free), teens can register online to receive a box every month containing two
library books, a small craft, and other fun items based on a theme. The YA Book Boxes
help promote the collection and circulate some excellent titles that have not gone out in
the past. Each box also contains a survey that allows the teen librarian to tailor the book
selections to the individual teen. Teens are asked to return the books, box, and survey
but can keep the rest!

Programming:
On Saturday, October 22, forty-two teens and adults gathered at the Library for a
unique demonstration of the theremin. This 1920s instrument is played without physical
contact by local artist Ed Sussman. The previous night, the Library showed the movie
Mars Attacks! which features music on the theremin played by Sussman! After the
presentation, attendees had an opportunity to try the instrument.

This quarter the Library began a monthly interactive movie night for all ages. During this
popular program, attendees receive a bag filled with themed items and directions to
help bring the movie to life. Crafts, activities, and books related to the film are also
available before and during the showing. The films viewed so far have been Nightmare
Before Christmas, Zootopia, and A Muppets Christmas Carol.
