President's Quarterly Update SUPPLEMENTAL
for Moorpark Library Board
March 14, 2023
The current Board of the MFOTL comprises the following members:

Members will hold office until May,2024.
Moorpark Friends of the Library Board General Information
> Bimonthly meetings are held in the Conference Room at the Ruben Castro Human Services Center,the most recent
held on January 17,2023, and the next scheduled for March 21,2023. Members of the Library Board and all
Moorpark residents are cordially invited to attend meetings with prior request to attend.
> We have been blessed with growth in stellar additions to our core. The Volunteer Match connection continues to provide
regular volunteer response with varying success,most recently garnering the welcome additions of a website coordinator,
Kate O'Brien,and Members Lori Preciado and Eleanor Villanueva. Equally welcomed through other sources are JoEllen
Hilliard and Bernadette McDowell. Eleanor LaBarbera remains as our skilled and faithful editor of the newsletter.
> Grant Researcher and Writer is still sought.
> Efforts continue to increase the number of Friends,and the level of their involvement in activities such as the bookstore,
book sales,and fundraising events.
Outreach and Promotion
> Regular search for volunteers through VolunteerMatch.org,
> MFOTL president is the designated liaison with the Moorpark Women's Club(MWFC). Articles in their newsletter
and presentations at the monthly general meeting promote our activities, membership in the Friends,and mutual
interests.
> We receive regular book donations at the MWFC monthly meetings.
> Participation in the Ad Hoc Committee for promotion and fundraising for the new library. A recent development is
transforming that into a subcommittee under the aegis of the MFOTL board,to be presented to the board at the March
meeting.
> MFOTL newsletters are sent bimonthly via email to MFOTL general members and are also linked on our website.
> Our website,served by Wix.com,is regularly updated with information from appropriate board members.
> Publicity through social media and Acorn articles,displays at the library and local businesses,and liaison with other
Moorpark organizations.
> Our members staff a booth at such events as Country Days and Earth Festival,and when appropriate at library events.
> Members of our core group attend the annual Serving With a Purpose conference. The conference continues to be a
rich source of inspiration,networking,and practical methods for doing our jobs better,enhancing our library support,
and locating governmental and other financial support. Most recently it was the source of information for a major
grant from the State for the new library.

> Membership has been steadily increasing, and there has been a recent trend toward upgrades in membership tiers.
Membership dues are a source of income,as are special donations.
➢ The MFOTL brochure is in process of revision and update by Lou Langkusch and new member Eleanor Villanueva.
➢ A new program is in an early stage of development, whereby local corporations and businesses will receive a copy(at
minimum)of the newsletter and library calendars. The purpose of the program will be to apprise the business,
finance,engineering and scientific communities of the relationship between the modern library's programs and their
value to those communities.
Fundraising
> The bookstore,seasonal and special book sales remain a steady and increasing source of income.
> Creative ways of garnering income from books not suitable for our shelves was successfully implemented during
2022 and continues now.
> The second annual Letters From Santa was successfully concluded with good financial return and a home visit to a
delighted family by Santa,Mrs. Claus,and the Elves on Saturday,December 17,2022.
➢ Our newest fun(d)raiser,the Night of International Dance and Culture,was held on Saturday,March 11,2023,
featuring Bollywood Beyondancing,Oxnard College Ballet Folklorico,Buckles&Bows Square Dancing,and
O'Shaughnessy Irish Dancers.
Finances
➢ Finances remain in good shape with sufficient reserves maintained for operating expenses.
> In February, $13,000 was committed for the library's fiscal year July 1, 2023 through June 30,2024.
> Our current Vanguard account,while suffering from the recent dip in investment values,has shown a rise in value to
its end-of-year 2022 level of slightly less of$62,000. This account is reserved for use for the new library and cannot
be used for operating expenses.
> A yearly financial audit is conducted by an independent reviewer.
Procedural Improvements
➢ The Bylaws and Standing Rules were reviewed and updated,with final versions completed in September, 2022.
> The yearly timeline for required actions has been completed.
> Meeting efficiency and purpose continue to be addressed to streamline reports and emphasize action items.
MFOTL priorities for 2023
> Increase membership and volunteer activity among members.
➢ Increase membership revenues,reward programs,and upgraded donations.
> Produce an inviting brochure.
➢ Continue to develop creative fundraising efforts.
> Continue a strong community and school outreach.
➢ Develop the new corporation and business outreach. This is seen as a"seed"program building future support for the new
library.
➢ With approval of the Board,absorb the work of the Ad Hoc Committee,as a subcommittee of the MFOTL Board.
