Moorpark City Library
Quarterly Report
January— March 2023
Highlights:
Thursday, January 19, Congresswoman Julia Brownley visited the Moorpark City Library
to present city officials with $750,000 in funding for the new library project as part of the
federal omnibus bill passed in December 2022.
In January, staff from LS&S IT worked with City IT to switch the software for managing
the public computers from EnvisionWare to Comprise due to Envisionware no longer
supporting mobile print. The computers and printers were down for the day. However,
patrons could check out a Chromebook for in-library use if they needed internet access.
In March, City IS transitioned the email server for the Library to Office 365.
On Saturday, February 25, thick hail began falling during the winter storm, creating snow-
like conditions around the Library in the early afternoon!
The Young Adult and Children's librarians attended the Family Literacy Night at Campus
Canyon Preparatory Academy on March 2. In addition to passing out program calendars,
visiting families and school staff were informed about upcoming programs like Kids Fest
and the Summer Bookmark Contest.

Collections:
After a two-year hiatus, magazines and newspapers have returned to the Library! The
newest edition of magazines are displayed face out on the shelf and are available for in-
house browsing. Older editions are stored on the shelf behind the face out and can
circulate. The Library keeps one week's worth of newspapers on display to be enjoyed
in-house before recycling.
During COVID, electronic resource access requirements were relaxed to allow expired
patrons and PACREG Patron barcodes to check out materials. Since library operations
have returned to normal, these changes were rolled back on March 1.

Programming:
On January 21, the Moorpark City Library held its first LEGO Robotics Club meeting with
41 participants of all ages- The club meets 1-2 times monthly and is peer-led by six middle
school students. Each session covers the basics of how robots work and how to build and
program them. The LEGO Robotics Club is an excellent opportunity to strengthen STEM
(science, technology, engineering, math)skills and learn about teamwork, leadership, and
social skills.
To create an inclusive space for children from Spanish-speaking households, the Library
provides storytime in Spanish on Thursday mornings with staff member Brisa Salazar.
Brisa is also working with the children's librarian to add books to the collection that have
cultural representation, support a positive cultural identity, and are written by Latinx
authors.

In February, the teen and children's librarians collaborated to host the first stuffed animal
sleepover at the Library. Forty-six participants brought stuffed animals to the Library,
where they sang songs, read books, and marched in the Stuffed Animal Parade. Once
the children left, the Teen Advisory Group posed and took pictures of the stuffed animals
doing various activities and shenanigans during the sleepover. When the stuffed animals
were picked up the following day, everyone had a chance to watch a slideshow with the
pictures taken the night before.
Kids Reading Corner is a new book club for children in grades 3-5. During the program,
participants are asked to bring or choose a book to read silently for 30 minutes and then
invited to talk about what they have read with the group. This program was created in
response to feedback from multiple patrons.
Art for All is a new program to teach arts and crafts to children in grades 3-8 with physical
and/or developmental disabilities. The program was developed by a Teen Advisory Group
(TAG) member with the support of two other TAG members.
