Investigations
The Moorpark Investigations Bureau consists of a Sergeant, two Senior Deputies and a Sheriff's
Service Technician. The Bureau is responsible for the investigation of a wide variety of cases from
minor thefts and batteries to complex identity thefts and assaults. Most recently, the Bureau has
experienced an increase in cases involving organized and semi -organized criminal crews who
commit large-scale identity theft. Often times, these same crews commit multiple thefts from
unlocked vehicles with the intention of finding and stealing wallets, driver's licenses, credit cards,
or other items containing the personal identifying information of others. In many instances, it is
these small scale thefts that NN
help fuel the substantial
identity theft related crimes.

In 2017, Moorpark Deputies assisted Simi Valley Police with the search for a stolen vehicle suspeG
who crashed then fled on foot into a neighborhood off of Miller Parkway. A search involving
numerous agencies, along with K-9 and copters, failed to locate the suspect. The following mornin
residents spotted the suspect in the same neighborhood. Another multi -agency search, along with
copter and K-9, again failed. Later that day, the suspect entered a residence in the neighborhood,
and the homeowner called 911. Responding deputies located and arrested the suspect inside the
resident's home.
In May 2017, several businesses in Moorpark were burglarized. Alert patrol deputies on dawn shift
spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle from one of the previous burglaries.
Deputies arrested the occupants for unrelated charges, and detectives conducted a follow up
investigation. Detectives linked the suspects to all of the burglaries, and the suspects are currently
awaiting trial.
