GENOVESE City Treasurer M E M O R A N D U M TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Community Services Department . (rM DATE: February 13 , 1987 U SUBJECT: FUND TRANSFER TO PURCHASE LAWN VACUUM BACKGROUND: Staff is requesting City Council transfer $600. 00 for the purchase of a lawn vacuum from 25-147-542 (Contractual Services AD-85-1) to the following account : $300 . 00 to 03-142-606 (Public Works-Streets Specialized Equipment) and $300 . 00 to 25-147-606 (Parks maintenance Specialized Equipment) . Staff at the November 12 , 1986 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was directed to make daily inspections of all City Parks . The request arose out of concerns expressed by residents relative to broken glass in the Campus Park and Glenwood Park areas . However , the Commissioners expanded this concern to all park sites . Currently our maintenance agreement with Turf Pro allows for park cleanup 3 days/week/park only. Initially staff felt this project would only involve a minimal amount of time daily. However, after 4 months of making safety checks staff finds it is taking approxi- mately 2-3 hours/day/park. The reason for the excessive time is the fact that staff must attempt to pick glass up piece by piece in the grass areas . This is in addition to sweeping glass up from sidewalks and raking Tot Lot sand areas . 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529-6864 City Council Lawn Vaccum February 13 , 1987 Page 2 The lawn_ vacuum will also be used by this Department to sweep up glass in public streets on an emergency basis .
