To Consider Support of Proposed Ventura County
Association of Cities
Council representatives of the ten Ventura County cities met recently
to discuss formation of an Association of Cities. The principal
purposes of this organization would be to address common issues and
concerns, serve as a forum for resolving mutual problems, and to
consider taking a formal position on County-wide matters.
The organization would provide for each City to have one member of
its Council on the policy Board and would include a City Manager's
committee. Meetings would be conducted five times a year, with the
Managers meeting two weeks prior to these meetings to prepare
agendas. Each city would be encouraged to have an alternate attend
the policy board meetings to assure continuity of membership.
This organization would also meet twice a year with the County Board
of Supervisors to help assure continuing City/County relationships.
It is important that the Cities have this or similar organization to
provide a forum to resolve issues of common interest. In the past,
VCAG has attempted to serve this role. With the proposed
establishing of a County Transportation Commission, there will be a
need for an organization such as this to address issues other than
transportation matters.
