Director of Community Development R. DENNIS DELZEIT City Engineer JOHN V. GILLESPIE Chief of Police THOMAS P. GENOVESE City Treasurer Enginee~~ At a recent Council meeting, interest was expressed for the installation of crosswalks across Moorpark Avenue and High Street at several uncontrolled intersections. Extensive documentation exists which indicates that marked crosswalks at uncontrolled intersections impart a false sense of .security to pedestrians and exhibit higher accident rates tha:n unmarked crosswalks. Because the Vehicle Code states that a pedestrian crosswalk exists at each street corner unless otherwise signed, installation of a marked crosswalk may have adverse effects and is not recommended.
