KANE City Attorney PATRICK RICHARDS, A.I.C.P. Director of Community Development R. DENNIS DELZEIT City Engineer JOHN V. GILLESPIE Chief of Police THOMAS P. GENOVESE City Treasurer The September 19, 1987 Moorpark Country Days was a very safe and successful event this year. The police estimate of the crowd was 7,000 at about I:00pm. There were minor incidents of drinking of alcoholic beverage in public, a violation of the city ordinance. All contacts with violators were without incident. Several lost children were returned to their parents. A horse was hit by a truck crossing Spring Road and suffered a laceration that was treated by a veterinarian and released. A girl was slightly injured in the bed race, receiving a laceration to a finger. The street dance was well attended. There were incidents of consumption of alcohol by some attending the dance. The dance was peaceful with only occasional problems with individuals and others gathering outside the dance area creating a disturbance. Additional deputies were brought in between 8:30 and 9:30. After 9:30, the dance was without incident. One subject outside the dance was arrested. The Moose Lodge Horseshoe Tournament drew approximately 500 people. The crowd was orderly and the event ended at 7:30pm. Four uniformed security officers were required by the Sheriff's Department which eliminated a repeat of last years incidents of fighting. A site evaluation at about 6:00pm indicated the location was not large enough to accomodate the size of crowd and the parking congestion caused on Highway 118/Los Angeles Avenue. A limit to the numbers on people allowed on the premises will be worked out for next year. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, Califomia 93021 (805) 529-6864 Page Two Moorpark Country Days Report The Sheriff's Department staffing and costs: Lt. This year the event was very successful with only a few police problems in relation to the size of the crowds for all the events. A true family atmosphere is present and is the primary reason for the crowds safe and orderly conduct. We look forward to next year's Moorpark Country Days.
