Wall, City Clerk DATE: August 14, 1987 SUBJECT: Establishment of a Community Center A]v=5ery !' it ee At Council's request, staff contacted the Conejo Recreation and Park District to determine their method of utilizing community resources at each of their recreation centers. Although staff has not yet received a sample of the by-laws for one of the centers, they were able to obtain the following information for your consideration. The District is headed by a Board of Directors who utilize advisory committees rather than a formal commission to assist in providing recreation services at each center. There is a different committee for each recreation center. Each one is slightly different in scope since each center does not offer the same activities. The Goebel Senior Center, for instance, offers senior activities while the Thousand Oaks Recreation Center is geared towards youth and young adult activities. Staff makes the appointments to the committees. It is their policy to draw from those citizens who participate on a consistent basis at a particular center. Depending upon what additional citizen help is needed, other citizens are called upon to volunteer their time when a particular area of expertise is needed. These committees meet once a month.
