Reconstruction of the 101 freeway will have incredible impact upon local surface streets. Neither city reci.eve<l copies of the draft document which is supposed to address such impacts. Caltrans responds that only the area adjacent to the 101 freeway would be impacted. A single page "Traffic Manage1nen t Plan .. has been prepared: but it fails to consider reasonable regional traffic patterns. Motorists tend to . shun official detours, when those detours fail to function. It will be normal to avoid construction areas whenever possible and drivers wiii adopt new and lasting travel routes. The outrageous proposal to ban trucks on the 101 freeway in the City of Los Angeles, can only compound the problem. A more rational timetable would provide the 23/118 gap closure ( the vital missing link) prior to interrupting traffic on the busiest stretch of freeway in the world. Until the project is completed, the City of Moorpark will monitor and report on project . related issues as a public service. ST A TUS is compiled by a sub committee of the Moorpark City Council. It is our goal to share the latest information an<l encourage public input. PROMOTIONS Due to retirement of both Leo Trombatore and Heinz Heckeroth, Robert Best has been named Cal Trans Directo1 and our former District 7 Director, Donald L. Watson is the new Deputy Director. Mr. Watson's experience with our traffic situation will be invaluable in Sacramento. Where to write: California Dept. of Transportation CALTRANS 120 south Spring Street Los Angeles ..
