Director of Community Development R. DENNIS DELZEIT City Engineer JOHN V. GILLESPIE Chief of Police The City Hall project is currently proceeding on schedule. There has been one Change Order to date. This Change Order was for the removal and replacement of subsurface debris, trash, organic matter and other unsuitable material that was discovered during the excavation of this project. At the recommendation of D. I.a. L. Services, this work was performed on a time and materials basis on December 28 and 29. The cost of the above mentioned Change Order is $5,579.89 and is 70% comp 1 eted to date. The appropriate percentage of the Change Order amount currently appears on the Progress Payment for Burns-Pacific Construction as included on the March 16, 1988 Warrant Register. The amount of this Change Order is within the $32,554 contingency as addressed in the Project Budget presented in the Staff Report dated December 1, 1987 regarding this project. Additionally there are a couple of minor mandatory Change Order Requests being processed. All such Change Orders are within the contingency. When these amounts are known, they will be presented to the City Council in another City Hall Construction Project Update. RECOMMENDATION 1. Approve Change Order No. 1 with amount of $5,579.89. 2. As per our previous notice we herewith request an increase in our contract price -• in the sum of $5,579.89 for removal and replacement of subsurface debris, trash, organic matter and other unsuitable material that was discovered during the excavation of this project.. We also request an increase in contract time of ten days. On December 23, 1987 we noted this unsuitable material at 1:30 P.M .. We were directed to overexcavate the area by Dial Services on_D_ecerribe_r-~4 1987_ at ?:30a.m .. . - We overexcavated until 9:00 a.m. on December 28, 1987 (our next work day). At this time Dial Services approved the sub base (at an elevation much lower than that shown -_ on the drawings and noted in the specifications and soils report). -At that time, we -started backfilling and compacting the overexcavated area.
