Enclosed with this letter you will find a description of the Committee as it was created by the Board. As you can see, you are one of the agencies from whom the Board is requesting a designated representative. It is our sincere hope that you will support our effort to loc3te school sites by designating a member and forwarding the name to Michael R. Slater, District Superintendent, at your earliest convenience. Since we have scheduled the first meeting of the Committee for March 22, 1988, we hope to have received the name of your designee prior to that time. SLATER, District Superintendent An Equal Opportunity Employer MOORPARK UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CREATION OF AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO BE CALLED THE SCHOOL SITE LOCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Board of Education hereby creates an advisory committee to the Board under the provisions of Board Policy 1221 {a) & {b). The Committee is created and is charged with the task of bringing to the Board of Education a recommended list of several potential school site locations, with at least one primary and one alternate site for each school, listed in priority of their perceived desirability to the Committee. The sites designated shall be within the boundaries of the Moorpark Unified School District, and may be within the boundaries of the City of Moorpark and/or within the unincorporated areas of the County which are within 4-h,-,. r.~ ,,.:... ,,,-: ,..,.:._ '-""~.._ ...., ~ o..J .._ ......... -._. The specific types of sites to be recommended shall be as follows: 1. Future Elementary School #1 on a site of approximately 10 acres. 2. Future Elementary School #2 on a site of approximately 10 acres. 3. Future Middle School #1 on a site of approximately 18 acres. 4. Relocation of the oresent Continuation School site to a site of approximately 4 acres. The membership shall be as follows: 1. A representative of the City of Moorpark, designated by the City Council or its designee. 2. A representative of the County of Ventura, designated by the Board of Supervisors, the County Executive Officer or the Director of Planning, at their option. The County is requested to appoint someone familiar with the land use planning in the Moorpark area. 3. A member of the Board of Education, appointed by the Board President. 4. A person representing the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce, appointed by the Board of Directors of the Chamber. 5. A parent of a student of the District, designated by the Presidents' Council of the District's parent support groups and PTA's. 6. A teacher of the District, designated by the Moorpark Educators' Association. 7. A classified employee of the District, designated by the local CSEA Chapter 498. 8. A member of the District Administrative Staff, designated by the Superintendent. 9. A representative of the State Department of Education, designated by the appropriate department head of that agency. SCHOOL SITE LOCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE February 23, 1988 Page -2- In the event that any agency requested to name a member to the Committee declines to do so, the School Board President may appoint another person to the vacant seat or leave the seat vacant, at his/her option. Each member of the Committee is asked to serve from the date of his/her appointment by the respective agency or body up to and including June 30, 1988. The service to be performed is to serve as a member of the School Site Location Advisory Committee and to perform the duties outlined above. The Board of Education will provide the Committee with staff support, official telephone calls, typing and copying of official reports and minutes of the Committee, meeting rooms and other services as may be authorized by the Superintendent. The approximate date on which the Board of Education wishes the Committee to submit its Final Report is June 30, 1988 or earlier. The Board of Education requests that the Committee take as its first task the site for an elementary school, and requests that the Committee submit an Interim Report on that site prior to its Final Report in order for the District to move forward with early site acquisition and construction of the school. The time and place of the first meeting will be 4:00 p.m. on March 22, 1988, in the District Office of the Moorpark Unifi~d School District. Copies of appropriate Board policies, including BP 1221 (a) & (b), will be provided to the Committee prior to the first meeting. The Chair of the Committee shall be the member of the Board of Education who is appointed to the Committee by the President of the Board of Education. The relationship of the Committee to the Board as a whole shall be that of an advisory committee to the Board, and the Committee shall present its reports to the Board at regular and/or special meetings of the entire Board of Education. The Superintendent is directed by the Board to assist the Committee in whatever manner he feels will assist it in accomplishing its charge from the Board. The Board of Education will dissolve the Committee upon receipt of the Committee's Final Report or on July 31, 1988, whichever is earlier. BRD/ADVISORY/c
