Dennis Delzeit, City Engineer £b,:,u~ /:)..?~,C DATE: May 24, 1988 SUBJECT: storm Drain Maintenance Program Guidelines BACKGROUND INFORMATION The following are guidelines for a storm drain maintenance program for the maintenance of underground storm drain pipes, which collect drainage from hillside areas. 1. The inlet to each storm drain shall be inspected prior to the rainy season and after any significant storm. Acknowledging that it is not possible to determine the actual beginning of the =•rainy season", each drain shall be inspected prior to September 1st of each year. 2. Any debris blocking the storm drain shall be removed from the drainage area and be disposed of off-site. Debris would constitute tree branches, tumbleweeds, soil or any other material that could potentially block the flow into a storm drain. 3. Maintenance personnel will become ·familiar with the specific characteristics of each drainage area. That is to say, some drainage areas may require more maintenance than described herein, while other drainage areas may require less maintenance. RECOMMENDED ACTION Authorize the City Manager to implement the storm drain maintenance program as specified herein. RDD:jg cc: John F.
