SUBJECT: storm Drain Maintenance Program Guidelines
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The following are guidelines for a storm drain maintenance
program for the maintenance of underground storm drain
pipes, which collect drainage from hillside areas.
1. The inlet to each storm drain shall be inspected prior
to the rainy season and after any significant storm.
Acknowledging that it is not possible to determine the
actual beginning of the =•rainy season", each drain
shall be inspected prior to September 1st of each year.
2. Any debris blocking the storm drain shall be removed
from the drainage area and be disposed of off-site.
Debris would constitute tree branches, tumbleweeds,
soil or any other material that could potentially block
the flow into a storm drain.
3. Maintenance personnel will become ·familiar with the
specific characteristics of each drainage area. That
is to say, some drainage areas may require more
maintenance than described herein, while other drainage
areas may require less maintenance.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Authorize the City Manager to implement the storm drain
maintenance program as specified herein.
