Hello,
My name is Jasmine Duron and I am the Advocacy and Community Impact
Coordinator for Autism Society Ventura County and a member of our aadvocacy
Committee. Our advocacy committee monitors city council, school board, and County
of Ventura agendas for topics of interest to the disability community, and speaks out
accordingly to ensure this often unheard population has a voice.
We would like to commend your work on the Teen Council and for your dedicated
mission to elevate youth voices. Your efforts in creating a platform where young
people can express their ideas and opinions are truly commendable and play a
crucial role in shaping an inclusive community.
As we celebrate these achievements, we are curious about the equity metrics that
guide your selections/election process. Ensuring that all voices are heard, especially
those from diverse backgrounds, is essential. Could you share how inclusive the
Teen Council is? Specifically, is there representation for teens with disabilities within
the council?
If not, what efforts have been made or could be made to make the council more
accessible and inclusive for everyone? It is important that we continue to strive for a
council that mirrors the diversity of our community, and that includes making sure that
teens with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate and contribute.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to youth empowerment. We look forward to
seeing how the council evolves to become even more inclusive.
