We need less pot not more in our city.
Facts about marijuana from the walk street journal this week:
Blood levels of marijuana don’t correspond to brain levels — because marijuana stays in the
brain longer — much longer than alcohol
“Thus marijuana does more lasting damage to the brain than alcohol, especially at the high
potencies being consumed today. Levels of THC—the main psychoactive ingredient in pot—
are four or more times as high as they were 30 years ago. That heightens the risks, which
range from anxiety and depression to impaired memory and cannabis hyperemesis syndrome
—cycles of severe vomiting caused by long-term use.
Marijuana has also been associated with violent behavior, including in a study published this
week in the International Journal of Drug Policy. Data from observational studies are
inadequate to demonstrate causal relationships, but Ms. Madras says that the link between
marijuana and schizophrenia fits all six criteria that scientists use to determine causality,
including the strength of the association and its consistency.”
And a side note from another article
“Bryn Spejcher, 32, of Thousands Oaks, Calif., was convicted last month of killing her
boyfriend in May 2018. According to prosecutors, she stabbed Chad O’Melia 108 times
with a kitchen knife. She also stabbed herself and her dog. When police showed up, she
was screaming hysterically.
Ms. Spejcher, an audiologist at UCLA Health, had no history of mental illness. Yet after
psychologists diagnosed her with “cannabis-induced psychosis,” prosecutors
downgraded charges from murder to involuntary manslaughter.”
This is not a safe drug we want to sell in our city.

Subject:City Council Meeting 5/15--HdL Companies findings

To Whom It May Concern--
I am writing as I am not able to attend the city council meeting this evening. I sincerely hope
my comments will be forwarded to the City Council.
I am interested in why the city of Moorpark has hired HdL to report on the cannabis regulatory
environment in the state of California. A quick Google search of HdL Companies states "HdL
Companies is dedicated to supporting local governments with revenue enhancement,
technology and consulting services that enable cities, counties and special districts to better
serve their constituents." (www.calcities.org)
The only feasible explanation for why the city has specifically asked for a report on cannabis
regulations by HdL would be if the City Council is considering bringing cannabis businesses to
Moorpark. Really? Are these the types of businesses City Council wants to attract to our
family-oriented, third safest city in the state of California? Is filling the empty storefronts with
any type of business that will pay the bills where we are as a city financially??? This is a
slippery slope and one that I sincerely hope the City Council will NOT get involved in. There
has to be a reason why a majority of our neighboring cities do not have these businesses in
their communities. If this was such a great money making opportunity, wouldn't more of
these businesses be approved in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, or Westlake Village? Regardless
of what HdL finds on the cannabis regulations in California, cannabis is NOT good business for
Moorpark. FIND A BETTER SOLUTION!
Sincerely,

To whom it may concern,
We’ve been living and raising our children in Moorpark almost 13 years. The reason we bought our house here is
we found Moorpark is very safe, friendly and family oriented. But it’s a shock to hear our beautiful city is
considering the marijuana business. As a mother and resident of Moorpark. I’m hoping the city would reconsider
about the planting of marijuana and business in Moorpark. As it will have a negative impact on our community and
the safety of our families.
