1.CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m. by Teen Council Chair, Abe Jeong.
2.PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Teen Council member, Jai Sarin.
3.ROLL CALL:
Present:Capri Alva, Allie Cano, Abe Jeong, Zoey Jeong, Alison Jimenez, Dylan

4.PUBLIC COMMENT:

5.DISCUSSION / ACTION ITEMS:
A.Review Breakfast with Santa event on 12/9/23 & 12/10/23
i.Teen Council members volunteered as servers for the Breakfast with
Santa event, and Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, asked for
feedback. Teen Council felt that overall the event went really well,
however they requested more ketchup for customers, and pointed out that
at times the food came out of the kitchen slowly.
B.Upcoming event: Teen Dodgeball Night – Saturday, January 27th – 6:00-9:00 p.m.
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, asked the Teen Council to
promote this event at their schools, clubs, teams, etc. Teen Council was
asked to help hang flyers at school and share the event on social media.
ii.Members brought up hosting teen cooking classes and possibly a Movie
Night for Teens in the Spring.

C.Upcoming event: Teen Cupcake Challenge – Saturday, February 10th, 6:30-9:00
p.m.
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, asked the Teen Council to
promote the event through the same channels as Teen Dodgeball Night,
but recognized the event tends to draw a slightly younger audience.
Members were asked to put this event on their calendars and Ms.
Peterson asked for a minimum of three volunteers to assist.
D.Teen Council survey
i.Recreation Services Manager, Stephanie Anderson, spoke to the Teen
Council to discuss the goals of the Teen Council survey. Members were
asked to complete the survey anonymously, and encouraged to be honest
about the Teen Council’s function and provide feedback on how the
program can be modified or improved if they felt necessary.

A.Teen Dodgeball Night
i.Saturday, January 27 from 6:30-9:00 p.m., volunteer 6:30-9:30 p.m.
ii.Teen Council members signed up to volunteer for the event. Teen Council
members discussed ways to promote the event. Decided to heavily
promote on social media and post at the Moorpark schools.
B.Teen Dodgeball Night – Saturday, January 27th – 6:00-9:00 p.m.
i.Saturday, February 10th, 6:30-9:00 p.m., volunteer from 6:00-9:30 p.m.
ii.Teen Council members discussed the Cupcake Challenge’s Valentine’s Day
theme and voted to have raspberries be the secret ingredient.
C.Cooking Classes for Teens

proposed teen cooking classes and possibly a Movie Night for Teens in the

5. DISCUSSION / ACTION ITEMS:
A. Review Teen Council survey results
i. Teen Council members reviewed the results of the survey that Teen Council
had taken. Parks & Recreation Director, Jeremy Laurentowski, discussed
the results with the group, and posed the question as to what the Recreation
Division can do in the future to improve the program.
B. Review Teen Cupcake Challenge
i. Only two teams competed, and Teen Council members suggested adding a
cash prize, posting the event more on social media, posting flyers around
town, and posting advertisements in the Acorn.

C.Upcoming event: Teen After Dark (Friday, March 15th - 6:00-9:00 p.m., volunteer
from 4:30-10:00)
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson explained that the Recreation
Division was excited to re-introduce the Teen After Dark which was an
opportunity for Moorpark youth in grades 6-9 to gather for a social hangout
and dance. Teen Council was asked to assist in promoting the event on
social media and with flyers around Moorpark schools, as well as volunteer
in executing the event.
D.Upcoming event: Easter Egg Hunt (Saturday, March 30th - 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.,
volunteer from 9:15-1:45)
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, asked the Teen Council to attend
this event as volunteers, and to bring additional volunteers to help execute
this large community event. The event will consist of age-appropriate egg
hunts, carnival games, inflatable attractions, face painting, pictures with the
Easter Bunny, and more.

5.DISCUSSION / ACTION ITEMS:
A.Discussion of Teen Council survey results
i.Parks & Recreation Director, Jeremy Laurentowski, discussed the results of
the Teen Council survey with the group, and asked for their feedback and
ideas. Teen Council members agreed that perhaps preparing an event for
next term’s Teen Council to execute would help them get started in a
productive and helpful manner. Ideas included a volunteer day, Teen
Olympics, and movies. It was also suggested that the Teen Council be
comprised of sub-committees or Ad-hoc committees so that they could plan
and discuss freely, without having to formally meet with an agenda.
Additional ideas included creating a Teen Council Instagram account,
having guest speakers, and finding a balance between learning more about
government and working on Parks & Recreation events and activities.

B.Next Teen event: Teen After Dark (Friday, March 15th - 6:00-9:00 p.m., volunteer
from 4:30-10:00)
i.Teen Council members were asked to sign up to volunteer at this event, and
reminded members to help promote the event to those in grades 6-9.
Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, explained that Teen Council was
needed to assist in working the event by setting and cleaning up the event,
serving food and sodas and monitoring the games and attractions.
C.Upcoming event: Easter Egg Hunt (Saturday, March 30th - 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.,
volunteer from 9:15-1:45)
i.Teen Council members were asked to sign up to volunteer for the event and
asked to bring additional volunteers.
D.Job Opportunity: Camp Moorpark Positions
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, shared that the City of Moorpark
was hiring individuals to work at the summer camp, Camp Moorpark. Teen
Council was informed that the positions are wonderful part-time summer
jobs working with children, and they were encouraged to apply.
E.Teen Cooking Classes: 4/5 & 5/3
i.Teen Council members were asked to promote the events, as this was an
activity that was previously suggested by the Teen Council.
F.Teen Summer Movie in the Park
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, wanted to take another event
suggestion of the Teen Council, and host a movie night for teens. It was
discussed that one of the movies shown in the Movies in the Park series
over the summer and fall could include a “teen night” featuring a movie that
was suggested by the Teen Council. Teen Council members were asked to
write down two movies that they and their friends would attend, for
Recreation staff to consider.

5.DISCUSSION / ACTION ITEMS:
A.Future presentations, guest speakers, and activities
i.Based on the Teen Council survey results, Teen Council members agreed
that future Teen Council meetings should include guest speakers, and
activities should focus more on “takeaways” and lessons or skills to learn,
rather than events. Teen Council members were asked to prepare additional
ideas to share at the next meeting.
B.Event Recap: Teen After Dark
i.Teen Council members shared that the event was well-liked by those in
attendance, and suggested we continue hosting the event. Members
pointed out though that the event may get redundant, so additional activities
may be needed to keep variety. One such suggestion included a “Casino
Night” with tickets used to “purchase” prizes or free admission to the next
Teen After Dark.

C.Upcoming event: Moorpark Earth Festival (Saturday, May 4th - 9:00 a.m.-1:00
p.m., volunteer from 8:30-1:30)
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, announced that the Recreation
Division was getting ready to host the annual Moorpark Earth Festival on
Saturday, May 4th. The event includes a Community Yard Sale, tree and
seed giveaways, eco-friendly vendors, and more. Teen Council will have a
booth at the event, and members discussed possible activity ideas which
included rock painting, dirt cups, coloring pages, and bird houses.
D.Teen Summer & Fall Movies in the Park
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, announced that the City had
finished the schedule of movies for the summer and fall Movies in the Park
events. Themed nights and movies include: Date Night (The Wedding
Singer), Kids Night (Trolls Band Together), Family-friendly (Shrek), Teen
(School of Rock), and 2 Halloween (Five Nights at Freddy’s and Haunted
Mansion).
ii.wanted to take another event suggestion of the Teen Council, and host a
movie night for teens. It was discussed that one of the movies shown in the

5.DISCUSSION / ACTION ITEMS:
A.Discuss future Teen Council structure and sub-committees
i.Parks and Recreation Director, Jeremy Laurentowski, discussed ways to
enhance Teen Council in future years. Some ideas included the Teen
Council creating events for the next Teen Council to accomplish early on in
the year, and creating sub-committees. Sub committees may include topics
such as government, social media, and event planning. The sub -
committees would be responsible for collaborating and presenting ideas to
the entire Teen Council at monthly meetings. Other suggestions for
improvements included expanding the Teen Council to more students,
promoting the Teen Council more heavily, and presenting more frequently to
the City Council and Parks and Recreation Commission.

B.Teen Cooking Class – Friday, 5/3 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. – tell your friends!
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, informed the Teen Council that
the final cooking class of their suggested Teen Cooking Workshops was
happening on Friday, May 3. She encouraged the Teen Council to attend
the class and/or promote to their friends.
C.Upcoming event: Moorpark Earth Festival (Saturday, May 4th - 9:00 a.m.-1:00
p.m., volunteer from 8:30-1:30)
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, announced that the Recreation
Division was getting ready to host the annual Moorpark Earth Festival on
Saturday, May 4th. Teen Council will have a booth at the event, and
members voted to have activities featuring rock painting and dirt cups.
D.Teen Council Recognition at City Council meeting - Wednesday, May 15
i.Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, announced that the Teen Council
would be recognized for their service and accomplishments at City Council
meeting on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Teen Council members were
encouraged to attend.
6.ANNOUNCEMENTS/FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
Recreation Supervisor, Victoria Peterson, announced that the applications for the next
Teen Council term would be opening next week. Members were encouraged to reapply
and promote the opportunity to their peers.
