MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION Moorpark Community Center 799 Moorpark Avenue A Special Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Moorpark was held on October 19, 2024, at the Moorpark Community Center located at 799 Moorpark Avenue, Moorpark, California. 1.CALL TO ORDER: Chair Winters called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. 2.ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Estrella, Morgan, Vice Chair Lousen and Chair Winters. Absent: Commissioner Flame. Staff Present: Jeremy Laurentowski, Parks and Recreation Director. 3.PUBLIC COMMENTS: None. 4.REORDERING OF, AND ADDITIONS TO, THE AGENDA: (Items to be pulled from the Consent Calendar shall be identified under this section ). None. 5.ANNOUNCEMENTS, FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS AND REPORTS ON MEETINGS/CONFERENCES ATTENDED BY COMMISSIONERS: None. 6.PRESENTATIONS/ACTION/DISCUSSION: A.Park Tour. Staff Recommendation: The Commission and staff will tour and discuss the following parks in the order listed below. There were no speakers. 1.Mammoth Highlands Park The Commission and staff toured the park and discussed the fields and their use by the Moorpark Soccer Club for practices and by United States Girls Volleyball for league games. The Commission and staff also discussed 30 Minutes of the Parks and Recreation Commission Moorpark, California Page 2 October 19, 2024 lighting at the basketball and tennis courts, at the trail connection that extends behind the Highlands homes and along the HOA property to the rear of the park. 2.Poindexter Park The Commission and staff toured the park and discussed Moorpark Little League’s use of the fields and the lack of available baseball fields in Moorpark. 3.Country Trail Park The Commission and staff toured the park and discussed its low use due to the lack of a restroom facility. The Commission and staff viewed the natural area and discussed the 2015 turf removal project that included the removal of several acres of turf. 4.Arroyo Vista Park The Commission and staff toured the park and discussed the potential to expand the park onto the SCE owned property in the future, including opportunities for additional parking and multi-use fields. 7.ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Winters adjourned the meeting at 11:27 a.m. APPROVED: __________________________________ Chair ATTEST: ___________________________________ Kimberly Sexton, Administrative Specialist 31
