CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:04 p.m. by Teen Council Co-Chair, Alison Jimenez 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Dylan Montelibano. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Eve Luekenga, Gauransh Tyagi, Bianca Gagajena, Elijah Luekenga, Alison Jimenez, Charlea Moore, Caden Hafer, Dylan Montelibano, and Allison Mendelson Absent: Katelyn Craft, Abraham Jeong, Zoey Jeong, Noam Adler, Michael Stevenson, and Everly Moore Staff: Parks and Recreation Director, Jeremy Laurentowski, Recreation Services Manager, Stephanie Anderson, and Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. 5. DISCUSSION /ACTION ITEMS: A. City Council / Parks & Recreation Commission Presentation Schedule i. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, reminded Teen Council members of the upcoming Parks & Recreation Commission meeting on November 4, 2024, and suggested that one representative from each Ad Hoc attend to present their Ad Hoc goals in a brief presentation. B. Haunted High Street i. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, discussed details and scope of responsibilities for volunteers attending the upcoming Haunted High Street event on October 31, 2024, and reminded Teen Council members to continue to recruit volunteers, instruct them to bring a signed waiver and to wear a family-friendly appropriate costume. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, also informed Teen Council members that they may be asked to help judge the costume contest. Teen Council members decided on caramel as the secret ingredient for the upcoming Cupcake Challenge event on November 8, 2024, and discussed various ways to promote the event including social media and distributing flyers at local restaurants and shops. D. Ad Hoc Updates i. Government Relations Ad Hoc member, Allison Mendelson, shared their goal of creating an informational guide for teens on how to register to vote and when different types of elections take place. ii. Events/Program Ad Hoc member, Dylan Montelibano, shared a power point presentation with plans for the Teen After Dark event including a live band, if the budget allows, and pros and cons of two theme options: Tangled and 80s. Teen Council members agreed on an 80s theme for the Teen After Dark event. iii. Social Issues Ad Hoc member, Alison Jimenez, shared their goals of focusing on mental health and drug abuse awareness and supporting a future fundraising event for the Wellness Center at Moorpark High School that could be held at the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center. iv. Social Outreach Ad Hoc member, Caden Hafer, shared their goals of creating a Teen Council Instagram to help promote teen events and spread awareness on teen issues, collaborating with Moorpark High School clubs, and creating posters designed with the 80s theme for the Teen After Dark event. 6. ANNOUNCEMENTS/FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: A. No announcements from Teen Council members B. Teen Council Co-Chair, Alison Jimenez, proposed a future agenda item of planning a drive-in movie event for teens. 7. CONSENT CALENDAR: A. Unanimously approved October 9, 2024, Regular Meeting Minutes with typographical correction of the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting date to November 4, 2024 in item E. 8.
