CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:01 p.m. by Teen Council Chair, Abraham Jeong 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Caden Hafer. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Eve Luekenga, Gauransh Tyagi, Bianca Gagajena, Elijah Luekenga, Charlea Moore, Caden Hafer, Dylan Montelibano, Katelyn Craft, Abraham Jeong, Zoey Jeong, Noam Adler, and Michael Stevenson Absent: Alison Jimenez and Allison Mendelson Staff: Parks and Recreation Director, Jeremy Laurentowski, Recreation Services Manager, Stephanie Anderson, and Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. 5. DISCUSSION /ACTION ITEMS: A. City Council / Parks & Recreation Commission Presentation Schedule i. November 4, 2024 Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Recap — Parks and Recreation Director, Jeremy Laurentowski, gave a brief overview of the presentations from Teen Council members Alison Jimenez, Abraham Jeong, and Dylan Montelibano at the November 4 Parks & Recreation Commission meeting and expressed that the Commission was pleased to hear what the Teen Council has been working on. ii. Parks and Recreation Director, Jeremy Laurentowski, reminded Teen Council members of the upcoming City Council meeting on December 18 and recommended a representative from each Ad Hoc attend and potentially do a short presentation if time allows. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, confirmed that the Teen Cupcake Challenge scheduled on November 8 was cancelled due to lack of registration and reminded Teen Council members to promote the next Teen Cupcake Challenge on January 31, 2025 via social media, word of mouth, and by passing out flyers. Teen Council members suggested promoting through Moorpark High School's broadcasting program called "Musketeer Mornings". ii. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, acknowledged that the lack of registration could have been due to the Moorpark High School football team's playoff game on the same evening, and while playoff games aren't typically scheduled in advance with the regular season, suggested looking ahead at any conflicting school events while scheduling teen events to mitigate cancellations due to low enrollment. C. Breakfast with Santa i. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, shard the details of the upcoming Breakfast with Santa event at the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center and asked Teen Council members to volunteer and recruit as many volunteers as possible as the event is dependent on volunteers helping with the serving of breakfast to the attendees. D. Holiday Movie Marathon i. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, shard the details of the upcoming Holiday Movie Marathon event and asked for 3-4 Teen Council members to volunteer and assist with the trivia game, story time reading, and bingo that takes place in between the movies that are shown. E. Teen Drive-In Movie Event i. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, recalled that Teen Council member, Alison Jimenez, added this as a future agenda item and due to her absence, this will stay on the agenda for the next Teen Council meeting. F. Ad Hoc Updates i. Government Relations Ad Hoc member, Abraham Jeong, reviewed his presentation at the November 4, 2024 Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting. ii. Events/Program Ad Hoc members, Dylan Montelibano and Katelyn Craft, shared that the Events/Program Ad Hoc is working on a soda drink menu and decoration ideas for the Teen After Dark event now that a theme has been established. iii. Social Issues Ad Hoc member, Elijah Luekenga, shared that the Social Issues Ad Hoc is still working on establishing a partnership with the Wellness Center at Moorpark High School and eventually support a fundraising event. iv. Social Outreach Ad Hoc member, Caden Hafer, shared the Social Outreach Ad Hoc is ready to start promoting teen events using a Teen Council Instagram account once the account is set up by city staff and that they plan to collaborate with the "Musketeer Mornings" broadcasting program at Moorpark High School. 6. ANNOUNCEMENTS/FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: A. Announcements from Teen Council members i. None B. Future agenda items from Teen Council members i. Teen Council Co-Chair, Alison Jimenez, proposed a future agenda item of planning a drive-in movie event for teens at the October 23, 2024 Teen Council meeting. ii. City Council Presentation 7.
