ANTONIO CASTRO Councilmember ITEM 7.A TEEN COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES April 9, 2025, 5:00 p.m. Arroyo Vista Recreation Center, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road 1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:01 p.m. by Teen Council member, Abraham Jeong. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Michael Stevenson. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Noam Adler, Dylan Montelibano, Katelyn Craft, Gauransh Tyagi, Abraham Jeong, Zoey Jeong, Bianca Gagajena, Allison Mendelson, Eve Luekenga, Elijah Luekenga, and Michael Stevenson Absent: Caden Hafer, and Charlea Moore Staff: Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. 5. DISCUSSION / ACTION ITEMS: A. Re-elect Co-Chair i. Teen Council member, Katelyn Craft, nominated herself to be Co-Chair and Teen Council members unanimously voted to elect Katelyn Craft as Co-Chair. B. Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Presentation Recap i. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, thanked Teen Council members, Katelyn Craft, Bianca Gagajena, and Gauransh Tyagi for presenting at the Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting on April 7. Teen Council and Social Issues Ad Hoc member, Bianca Gagajena, shared that during her presentation, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, June Dubreuil, suggested connecting with the Ventura County Behavioral Health agency to see how Teen Council can support them or vice versa. Teen Council Regular Meeting Minutes April 9, 2025 C. Easter Egg Hunt Event i. Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, reminded Teen Council members of the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt event at Arroyo Vista Community Park on April 19 and shared some of the details for the event, described where volunteers will meet and the types of tasks they’ll be assisting with. Teen Council members shared that they have been promoting the volunteer opportunity to various clubs at Moorpark High School. D. Ad Hoc Restructuring i. Due to dissolution of the Social Outreach Ad Hoc, to even out the number of members in each Ad Hoc and to ensure no Ad Hocs would have a quorum, Teen Council member Noam Adler is moving from the Events/Programs Ad Hoc to the Social Issues Ad Hoc, and Teen Council members Michael Stevenson and Zoey Jeong are moving to the Social Issues Ad Hoc from the dissolved Social Outreach Ad Hoc. E. Ad Hoc Updates i. Government Relations Ad Hoc member, Gauransh Tyagi, shared that the presentation at the High School at Moorpark College where Mayor Chris Enegren, City Councilmember Renee Delgado, Parks and Recreation Director, Jeremy Laurentowski, Moorpark City Librarian, Christine Conwell, and Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman, were in attendance went well and led to some of Gauransh’s classmates to inquire how they can get involved with Teen Council. Teen Council member, Gauransh Tyagi, also shared that he would like to coordinate having some of the Parks and Recreation Commissioners attend a Teen Council meeting. Government Relations Ad Hoc member, Abraham Jeong, shared that he is coordinating with teachers at Moorpark High School to plan a presentation from the City of Moorpark Assistant City Manager, PJ Gagajena. ii. Events/Program Ad Hoc members Katelyn Craft, Dylan Montelibano, and Eve Luekenga shared their progress on the clues and instructions for the escape room and trivia game during the Teen After Dark event, provided a purchasing list for the soda bar, and asked Recreation Coordinator I, Hilary Kleiman for help in securing donated gift cards as prizes for the escape room and trivia game. iii. Social Issues Ad Hoc members Bianca Gagajena and Elijah Luekenga shared that the Social Issues Ad Hoc set up a booth on April 9 during lunchtime at Moorpark High School and provided resource pamphlets and flyers along with friendship bracelets that students could make when they visited the booth, and they shared they received positive responses.
