Richards, Director of Community Development DATE: July 1, 1988 SUBJECT: AMENDMENT TO THE GENERAL PLAN AND/OR THE ZONING CODE REGARDING REQUIREMENTS FOR ART IN PUBLIC PLACES BACKGROUND The City currently has no requirements for development projects to provide for public art at this time. An interest to provide for public art was introduced by Councilmember Galloway several months ago. DISCUSSION City staff has been working on this subject off and on since the first of the year. Staff' s main efforts has been in the area of research and data collection. As part of staff' s review, a request was forwarded to the City Attorney' s office for an opinion on how to best proceed. The recommendation from the City Attorney' s office was to begin with a revision of the General Plan and Zoning Code in lieu of a Public Arts Policy. The purpose of the attached resolution is to direct the Planning Commission and staff to amend the General Plan and/or Zoning Code so as to provide for Art in Public Places. RECOMMENDATION Adopt a resolution to initiate the proceeding to consider an amendment to the General Plan and/or Zoning Code pertaining to Art in Public Places. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529-6864
