Richards, Director of Community Development DATE: March 28, 1989 (CC meeting of 4/5/89) SUBJECT: AMENDMENT TO THE SIGN CODE RELATING TO "FOR SALE & FOR LEASE" SIGNS WITHIN MULTI-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL ZONES Background When the City incorporated in 1983 they adopted the Ventura County Zoning Code as the City' s official code. Within this code under Article 24 were provisions of the regulation of various signs in the City. There were specific regulations related to real estate For Lease signs. On November 3, 1986 the City deleted Article 24 of the Zoning Code in it' s entirety and created Chapter 50 to Title 9 which is the new heading designations in the City' s Zoning Code. When the City deleted Article 24 it removed a substantial number of controls on For Sale and For Lease signs in multi-family zones. Discussion Staff is requesting under Section. 8164-1 of the Zoning Code to have the City Council initiate the proceedings necessary to direct staff and the Planning Commission to amend the sign code so as to better regulate signs in the multi-family zones within the City. Recommendation Adopt the attached resolution to initiate the proceeding to consider an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance pertaining to signs in multi-family zones.
