Moorpark, California June 7, 1997
A Special Town Hall Meeting of the City Council of the City of
Moorpark was held on June 7, 1997, at the Red River Fish and Steak
Restaurant located at 233 E. High Street, Moorpark, California.
1. CALL TO ORDER:
Mayor Hunter called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m.
2. ROLL CALL:
Present: Councilmembers Evans, Rodgers Teasley,
Wozniak, and Mayor Hunter.
Absent: Councilmember Perez
Staff Present: Richard Hare, Deputy City Manager; Deborah
Traffenstedt, Senior Planner; Dorothy
Vandaveer, Deputy City Clerk.
3. PRESENTATIONS/ACTION/DISCUSSION:
A. Consider Goals and Objectives for Fiscal year 1996/97.
B. Discussion of Downtown Specific Plan.
CONSENSUS: By consensus, the Council determined to consider
these two items together for purposes of discussion.
Debbie Traffenstedt gave an update of the status of the
Downtown Specific Plan.
Jeff Rowen expressed that the City should work with the
Chamber of Commerce more closely to promote businesses in
town.
Lynne Owen stated that it is a business's responsibility
to advertise and make themselves successful, not a
responsibility of the City.
June Dubreuil spoke regarding the quality of architecture
and the statement it makes about the community.
Rosemary De Yoe, spoke as a member of the Ad Hoc Downtown
Advisory Committee and commented on the soundness of the
Downtown Specific Plan. She said it is promoting the
Victoria style of architecture.

Councilmember Wozniak stated that he is exploring with
the Ventura County Transportation Commission the
possibility of implementing a "Saturday train" to come
into Moorpark to bring visitors from other places. He
said further information regarding this idea will be
forthcoming from the VCTC.
Barry Teasley said the city needs more welcoming signs on
the roadways leading into it.
Mayor Hunter provided an update on the budget process.
He said there will be another budget workshop on June 11
at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Community
Center and that this meeting is open to the public.
County Planning Commission Chairman Mike Wesner gave an
update on the application of M&M Maintenance Recycling
that was recently denied by the Ventura County Planning
Commission. He said there is good probability that this
decision will be sustained at its appeal hearing, but
that the County is under great pressure from the State
for recycling facilities.
