A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MOORPARK, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING
HR -3816 AND S -2015 WHICH EXTENDS THE
APPLICATION PERIOD UNDER THE IMMIGRATION
REFORM AND CONTROL ACTION OF 1986 ANOTHER
YEAR.
WHEREAS, the legalization program offers a one -time opportunity for
millions of undocumented immigrants to legalize their status; and
WHEREAS, final regulations were issued a bare four days before the
program was to begin and non - profit agencies were selected at the eleventh
hour;
WHEREAS, the Immigration Service has continually changed the
regulations affecting applicant eligibility but has not adequately
publicized those changes;
WHEREAS, an estimated 1.1 million individuals living in Los Angeles
County are eligible for temporary status, according to the State Department
of Finance, but only an estimated 600,000 may apply by the May 4, 1988
deadline;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MOORPARK, CALIFORNIA supports HR -3816 and S -2015 currently pending in
Congress to extend the application period another year and urges Congress to
approve such legislation so that our undocumented friends, family members,
neighbors and co- workers may reap the benefits of legalization to become
productive members of society.
