MINUTES OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
Moorpark, California
1. CALL TO ORDER:
June 7, 2004
Chair Catrambone called the meeting to order at 6:46 p.m.
2. THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
Brownie Troop 4388 and Junior Girl Scout Troop 437 led the
Pledge of Allegiance.
3. ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioners Quentin DeGuardi, Thomas Pflaumer,
Julie Weisberger, and Chair Joseph Catrambone. Commissioner
Sandra Thompson arrived late.
Staff Present: Mary Lindley, Director of Community
Services; and Patty Lemcke, Administrative Secretary.
4. PROCLAMATION, COMMENDATIONS AND SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS:
A. Recognition of Brownie Troop #388 and Junior Girl
Scout Troop #37.
Commissioner Weisberger presented the Troops with
Certificates of Recognition.
B. Staff's Monthlv Report.
Mary Lindley gave an oral report.
5. REORDERING OF, AND ADDITIONS TO, THE AGENDA:
None.
6. PUBLIC COMMENTS:
There was one speaker. Kyle Stuckey stated that he would
like to see a hand ball court built at Campus Canyon Park.
He submitted a petition with neighborhood signatures.

7. CONSENT CALENDAR:
A. Approval of Minutes for the Parks and Recreation
Commission's Meeting of May 3, 2004. Staff
Recommendation: Approve as presented.
MOTION: Commissioner Weisberger moved to approve as presented.
Commissioner DeGuardi seconded. The motion was carried
5 -0.
B. Easter Egg Hunt Report. Staff Recommendation: Receive
and file report.
MOTION: Commissioner Thompson moved to receive and file
report. Commissioner Pflaumer seconded. The motion was
carried 5 -0.
C. 3rd of July Fireworks Extravaganza Status Report. Staff
Recommendation: Receive and file report.
MOTION: Commissioner Pflaumer moved receive and file report.
Commissioner DeGuardi seconded. The motion was carried
5 -0.
8. DISCUSSION /ACTION ITEMS:
A. Consider Playground Equipment for Mountain Meadows
Park. Staff Recommendation: Select the Space Ball
equipment with blue ropes, zinc posts, and black balls
for the small play lot at Mountain Meadows Park.
Mary Lindley gave a brief overview of previous
meetings regarding the Mountain Meadows play lot and
equipment selection. She stated that she is
recommending the Space Ball and color scheme that is
being presented to the Commission at tonight's meeting
and suggested adding two smaller pieces of play
equipment at a later date, after the large play lot
equipment has been replaced.
Commissioners Weisberger and Thompson both agreed with
staff's choice in equipment as well as the color
scheme.

Commissioner Thompson asked if both fibar and sand
will be used for surfacing. Ms. Lindley stated that
both are preferable if the budget allows.
Commissioner DeGuardi asked how long the installation
would take once a contractor has been secured. Ms.
Lindley stated that typically it takes about two to
three months.
Commissioner Pflaumer stated that he also likes the
Space Ball but his preference would be the Super Nova.
MOTION: Commissioner Weisberger moved to support staff's
recommendation in selecting the Space Ball equipment
and color scheme. Commissioner Thompson seconded. The
motion was carried 4 -1, with Commissioner Pflaumer
opposed.
B. Consider Name for the Undeveloped Park on the Corner
of Magnolia and Charles Streets. Staff Recommendation:
Select the name of Magnolia Park for consideration by
the City Council.
Mary Lindley reviewed her report with the Commission
and explained why staff is recommending the name
Magnolia Park. She also stated that the proposed name
is consistent with the City's Park Naming Policy.
9. ANNOUNCEMENTS /FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
Mary Lindley announced that the Parks and Recreation
Commission will be dark for the months of July and August.
Commissioner Pflaumer offered his condolences to the Reagan
family on their loss of the former President Ronald Reagan
and encouraged the public to pay their respects at the
Ronald Reagan Library on Tuesday, June 8.
10. ADJOURNMENT:
Chair Catrambone adjourned the meeting at 7:17 p.m.
