1. CALL TO ORDER:
September 15, 2003
Chair DeGuardi called the meeting to order at 6:38 p.m.
2. THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
Girl Scout Troop #438 performed the Flag Ceremony and led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioners Joseph Catrambone, Thomas Pflaumer,
Sandra Thompson, Julie Weisberger, and Chair Quentin
DeGuardi.
Staff Present: Mary Lindley, Director of Community
Services; Stephanie Shaw, Recreation Coordinator; and Patty
Lemcke, Administrative Secretary.
4. PROCLAMATION, COMMENDATIONS AND SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS:
A. Girl Scout Troop #438 Bronze Award Presentation
(Tobacco/Litter Project).
Girl Scout Troop #438 gave an overview of their project
and the results.
Mary Lindley presented the Troop with a plaque of
recognition.
B. July 3rd Fireworks Extravaganza Presentation and
Sponsor Recognition.
Stephanie Shaw gave a PowerPoint presentation on the
July 3 -d Event, and then recognized the top five
sponsors; Cardservice International, Special Devices
Incorporated, Northpark Village, Wayne J. Sand and
Gravel, and Charles Abbott Associates.
C. Staff's Monthly Report.
Mary Lindley gave an oral report.
The Commission inquired as to the number of new
parking spaces now available with the two new AVCP
parking lots. Mary Lindley stated that she wasn't

quite sure on the exact number, but would email the
correct count the next day to the Commission.
5. REORDERING OF, AND ADDITIONS TO, THE AGENDA:
None.
6. PUBLIC COMMENTS:
None.
7. CONSENT CALENDAR:
A. Approval of Minutes for the Parks and Recreation
Commission Meeting of June 2, 2003. Staff
Recommendation: Approve as presented.
B. Recreation Programming Quarterly Report. Staff
Recommendation: Receive and file report.
C. Parks Quarterly Report. Staff Recommendation: Receive
and file report.
D. Apricot Festival Report. Staff Recommendation: Receive
and file report.
E. July 3`d Event Report. Staff Recommendation: Receive
and file report.
MOTION: Commissioner Catrambone moved to approve the Consent
Calendar as presented. Commissioner Thompson seconded.
The motion was carried 5 -0.
8. DISCUSSION /ACTION ITEMS:
A. Consider Mountain Meadows Playground Equipment
Conceptual Design. Staff Recommendation: Provide input
on the conceptual design of the play equipment for the
small playlot at Mountain Meadows Park.
Mary Lindley gave a brief review of her staff report
and then gave a PowerPoint presentation on different
designs of climbing walls.

The Commission provided input on their preferences,
and narrowed down their selection to two climbing
walls.
Commissioners Pflaumer and Thompson stated that they
would like to have one particular piece of play
equipment, which they saw at the 2003 CPRS Conference,
presented to the Commission for consideration.
Mary Lindley stated that she would return next meeting
with more detail on the two specific walls, their
prices, and more information on the particular piece
of equipment from the CPRS Conference of 2003.
The Commission and staff briefly discussed the
replacement of the existing play equipment at the
park.
B. Consider the Selection of a Villa Campesina Playground
Ad Hoc Committee. Staff Recommendation: Select two
Commissioners to serve as the Villa Campesina
Playground Ad Hoc Committee.
Commissioners Catrambone and Thompson volunteered to
serve on the Villa Campesina Playground Ad Hoc
Committee. They will meet with the residents of Villa
Campesina to seek their input.
C. Select Date for Fall Park Tour. Staff Recommendation:
Select a date and time to conduct the Fall Park Tour.
The Commission will decide between
November 1 for the upcoming Fall
requested the following parks be
touring: AVCP, Country Trail, Monte
View, Mountain Meadows, and the pr(
