CITY OF MOORPARK, CALIFORNIA
City Council Meeting
MOORPARK CITY COUNCIL ACTION:_ -°'
AGENDA REPORT
TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: Richard A. Diaz, Captai
DATE December 29, 2004 (CC Meeting of 1/05/05)
SUBJECT: Consider Authorizing a Contribution of up to $5,000 to
be Placed Into a Reward Fund for the Dennis Leroy Wood
Homicide Case.
BACKGROUND
Dennis Leroy Wood was discovered dead inside of his residence,
located within the City of Moorpark on Friday, April 16, 2004.
An investigation determined he had been the victim of a
homicide.
DISCUSSION
On Friday, April 16, 2004 at about 5:30 PM deputies from the
Moorpark Police Department responded to the 12500 block of
Mountain Trail to "Check the Well Being" of the 69 year old
resident, Dennis Leroy Wood. Mr. Wood, a widower of
approximately one year, lived alone. A family member had called
the police to report that the family had not been in touch with
Mr. Wood in approximately two weeks.
When deputies arrived at the location they found Mr. Wood dead.
A homicide investigation has been ongoing since the discovering
of Mr. Wood, but the case has now gone cold. A family member
and the Ventura County Sheriff's Department feels the
establishing of a reward fund may stimulate interest in the case
that could lead to a potential suspect or suspects in the death
of Mr. Wood. A $20,000 reward fund is in the process of being
established with $10,000 contributed.by the family of Mr. Wood,
$5,000 from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and a
request for the City of Moorpark to match the Sheriff's
Department of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest
and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Mr.
