GILLESPIE Chief of Police Annual Pavement Overlay Project, FY 1985 -86 & 1986 -87 Award of Contract BACKGROUND INFORMATION At your last City Council meeting, the City Engineer presented this year's Annual Overlay Project. The project will include the overlay of seven (7) different streets. On July 16th, sealed bids from six (6) contractors were received and opened for this project. Bids were requested for three different project alternatives. Each alternative addressed a different combination of streets to be overlaid and are listed as follows: Alternative No. 1 High S'L. Third St. Bard St. Sherman Ave. Gabbert Rd. Second St. Sarah Ave. Alternative No. 2 High St. Third St. Bard St. Sherman Ave. Gabbert Rd. Both Camino Contracting (low bidder on Alternatives 1 and 2) and Robert R. Nye Inc. (low bidder on Alternative No. 3) are experienced and reputable firms qualified to perform the work outlined in the Contract Documents. Both firms are capable of completing the work within the time required by the contract. The City Council may award a contract on any one of the three project alternatives. Construction is scheduled to begin by approximately August 4, 1986. The contractor will be required to complete construction on High Street by September 1, 1986. RECOMMENDED ACTION The City Engineer recommends an award of contract to Camino Contracting for Alternative No. 1 in the amount of $ 357,588.17. JFK: JP: go JN3 8 81
