Richards, Director of Community Development DATE: May 8, 1987 SUBJECT: COMPLAINT OF EXCESSIVE NIGHTTIME NOISE EMANATING FROM METAL BELLOWS FACILITY, 200 SCIENCE DRIVE BACKGROUND On April 9, 1987, Linda Bins of 749 Sir George Court called the City to register the above complaint. The staff immediate- ly contacted the Sheriff's Department who has been following up on the complaint since. The source of the noise emanates from mechanical equipment being operated at night because an energy savings that results from nighttime operation. The equipment is involved in the manufacturing of ice which is used to cool, or insulate other equipment. Metal Bellows had already at the time of the complaint begun to contact for an enclosure of the equipment that would sub- stantially muffle the noise. Apparently, nighttime field observations of the noise problem produced a variety of opinions as to how significant the problem really is. Resolution of the problem is underway.
